We have a hunting club of 2500 acres and plant 34 fields each year. Roughly 40-45 acres of planting. We spend $700 each year on seed. Plus round up costs, and bush hogging and disking each year on a tractor. Plus spreading the seed and fertilizer out by atv. We can plant all our fields in Clover King from for roughly $1500. The clover is more expensive up front, but from my understanding only has to be bush hogged and will come back for the next 5 years. This would save us money in the long run and a tremendous amount of work. Any thoughts on this? Or should I stick to the normal seed. http://www.outsidepride.com/seed/deer-food-plots/clover-king-deer-food-plot-seed.html

You may be really disappointed if you tried this. First and foremost, it may grow some clover this fall, but you're not going to see it reach its potential until next spring. Secondly, a stand of pure clover will require some maintenance such as herbicide applications and overseeding of bare spots. It's not going to be maintenance free for 5 years. I am confident of that.
You could try adding some perrenial clover to your fall food plots to slowly build a stand of clover. I think you'll be disappointed if you plant 100% clover. Keep planting the oats but add clover seed each year until you build up a good stand.
