As many of you know, we lost our 4 year old son on November 10, 2016 to a neurological disease (GM1-Gangliosidosis). He was diagnosed at 4 months and we were told he would live 2-3 years. We celebrated monthly birthdays and made the most of his 50 months with us. With the help of some great friends, I set out on a mission this past season to kill a single season grand slam to honor Porter since he never was able to hunt with me. It was by far my best season ever and one I will cherish for the rest of my life. Turkey hunting can be so much more than killing a turkey, the friendships and relationships built during turkey season and the time spent enjoying creation make it super special. I thought of Porter every time I hunted and there were a ton of emotions every time I was lucky enough to tag a turkey. Of course my Alabama bird was the toughest. I hunted 22 mornings before finally connecting in Macon County. I had 13 different jakes within range and one strutter about 60-70 yards out and was in birds a lot of my hunts. Things just did not work out for me in AL until late in the season. It ended up being the most exciting hunt of the year for me and was a huge monkey off my back knowing I only had the Merriams left and felt good about the success rates in SD. I was working on getting my feet and beards on a board and decided I needed to post some pictures. I have all of the fans that I still have to display somehow. The middle bird is from AL, the two on either side are Rio's from OK, the far left looking at the picture is the Osceola from FL and the far right is one of my Merriams from SD. I also left another Merriams at the taxidermist. Osceola Rios Eastern Merriams One of Stony's calls with a picture of me holding Porter at the hunting land just after his diagnosis. This shows the plaque I had made that I put on "Porter's shotgun" that I killed all of my grand slam birds with. Browning 20 Silver Hunter.

Awesome read Michael. I'm sure there's some special memories there that'll always be with you. Congrats.

Great story brother and one of the best tribute ideas I've ever seen on a gun. You will never be alone in the woods. Congrats on a great season.

I'm sorry to hear about your son; makes my problems seem trivial. Congrats on a great turkey season.
