It's going on a Browning A-Bolt .270, does that make a difference in a particular scope size or type? Longest I'd ever have to shoot in places I hunt is about 200 yards, 250 max. A basic 3-9 scope is PLENTY for 250 yards. Instead of going for more unneeded magnification, get better glass quality with the same money always!

I have a Bushnell 3200 elite 3x9x50 on the same gun. it has been a solid combo, good eye relief and never had a problem with having to readjust sighting or re-zero in 17 years. solid scopes well within your price range

Save another $100 and you can get a much better scope than what you have. With $300 or thereabouts to work with you can make a substantial upgrade over what you have. $200 is just a little short IMO. For new scopes, I totally agree. For a patient buyer who keeps his eye out here, 24hourcampfire, ebay, etc....$200 can make a substantial upgrade in glass over what he has. I would suggest looking for a Leupold VX-2 or Bushnell Elite 4200. I have seen some Zeiss Conquests go for $250 used too if he could come up with another $50. Also, if super budget tight, a used Bushnell Elite 3200 for around $150 is a substantial improvement in glass quality. Agree 100% 24hourcampfire is the best place to start.

$200 isn't necessarily a firm budget, it's essentially my lack of knowledge of what price level a good new scope starts at. Thanks all for your input. If we are talking used like the suggestion of a used Leupold VXIII or Bushnell 3200 or 4200,then around $200 or just a little more might work. If talking new,I am much more comfortable starting at about $400.

I have an Elite 3200 firefly just sitting in the safe Assuming how right James' heart is...this is where I would start. X2 those Firefly reticles are very nice for low light hunting even without charging them with a flashlight.
