I have torn my labrum a few months ago and had 2 options. Option 1 was therapy and steroid shot and option 2 was surgery. I have done my therapy and know its not fixing the problem. Have any of y'all experienced a torn labrum? I do manual labor and run a crane so I am wondering the recovery time with surgery. I have heard good and bad things and I know everyone is different. Just wanted some opinions. Thanks

Brother had it fixed via surgery and healed up fine no issues. Arm was in a sling for several weeks.

I had it surgically repaired 23 years ago...4 weeks in a sling back then. Swinging a bat within 4 months

I had a small tear in my rotor cuff (labrum?) about a year ago. Super painful. They sent me to physical therapy which helped marginally. I ended up just nursing it myself and completely laying off it and hardly moving it. That was an option for me since I essentially have a desk job.

It eventually quit hurting and I started going to the gym a few months ago doing light freeweights. For the most part it's apparently healed up. Just another data point.

I recently had surgery for a torn rotator cuff and a torn bicep. Not sure if it's the same thing you have but physical therapy SUCKS!!!!!! Good luck with it.

As the others have said, in a sling for a few weeks and I am good to go. Mine was done about 10 years ago.
Just listen to the dr and the physical therapist.

I appreciate it guys. I got a MRI done on it back in April and they called it a slap tear. I was working out at least 5 days a week when it happened. When I got the call they wanted me to set up surgery but with work and having hardly any off time I need to put it off as long as possible. I got the steroid shot which didn't do squat and the therapy didn't help either. I really think it would've helped if I could've laid off it for a while but I don't have that choice. My main concern is being able to get back to work after surgery. My wife even said what are you going to do about hunting season. I told her shoot left handed or put the boy on one. She just laughed. Does this affect any of you from bow hunting and if so how long did it take for you to be back to say normal. Sorry for the long read. Thanks again.

I hope it's better than my hip labrum tear that I had repaired last August, by Dr. Byrd, Olympic surgeon and TN Titan surgeon. I'm having a hip replacement in Oct '17. I now have a dislocated hip, by no fault of Dr. Byrd's.

Same here. 3 years ago. No real issues besides learning to sleep on my other side but after putting the surgery off for 10 months I had almost mastered that. I should still is alittle tight and I can't throw a fastball much anymore but I can now draw my bow with no issues

I have/had a partially torn Labrum in both shoulders. The right one is worse than the left. My left one doen't bother me anymore. It's been 10 or so years since I tore it. The right one still bothers me some or the bone spurs do. Not sure which.

Serious as a heart attack... If not for stinging my right shoulder with honeybees, I would have had to have surgery about 4 years ago. The pain got so bad that I couldn't stand it. I'm due another round of stings. It hurts all the time again.

I have a SLAP tear as well and they want me to get surgery. Never even offered me therapy. He said it gradually gets worse if you don't fix it, and it can't repair itself due to how little blood flow that area gets. Anyway, it is not hurting quite as bad now, but a few months ago it was killing me. At one point, it hurt so bad it made me nauseated.

Maybe I'll get surgery toward the holidays. It is messing up my shooting, so I'll have to deal with it at some point. I had to pay doggone $700 out of pocket for the MRI.

Ouch solo, I hope the pain isn't unbearable cause that's a long time out. I've never really been a fast ball kind of kind but with my son coming up to kid pitch this year that is a concern also. I guess we'll see what happens with that. How did you go about learning or doing the bee sting thing? That sounds wild. I was fortunate enough to have a secondary insurance that covered most my cost plus Aflac so I got a little back from that. I know what you mean about shooting. I cant draw my bow even on 52 pounds and it hurts doing any over head movements but I'm going to try to put it off till the end of season and also a new year of paid time off. Either way It goes it will have to be done soon. I really appreciate all the advise and past experience. It eased my worries. Thanks, Chris

Could not bow hunt with mine at all. That is when I decided to get the surgery done. Mine was a partial tear to both the rotator cuff as well as labrum. I was back in the gym in 3 months. Glad i had it done. July 5 was two years ago.

I had a labrum tear years ago. got so bad that when I sneezed, I nearly pissed my pants. Ortho surgery, rehab, etc. 2 years later right back like it was. Went to new Dr and he would not come right out and say previous Dr botched surgery since he is a major face in community. Still have not had anything done about it. Fast forward. Had mcl tear last December and had a 2 for 1 MRI done on knee and shoulder. Shoulder is bad shape now and there is also a rotator cuff tear that was not there. I need surgery but connot afford it. Don't wait to get it done if you can afford it and do your homework on Drs and their success rates.

I got my son a crossbow last year so I might just have to use it myself this year. I know the doctor down at Andrews told me that I need to do it ASAP but like I said its not a option right now. He told me that I have torn it so bad he is surprised it doesn't pop out all the time. He also told me that tendinitis has set up and the longer I put it off could possible lean towards arthritis being a issue. Do any of you have doctors in the St. Vincent chain that you would recommend. I'm hoping I can get it done and be back to normal to get back to work, gym, and most importantly my sons baseball. Also, anyone that near the Hayden area can you recommend a good physical therapy location? I have been going to champion sports medicine in oneonta which I like but want to look at other options as well.

Shoulders are tight little areas. You have ZERO room for tears, spurs, and fluids without causing a lot of pain. Labrum surgeries are far easier to recover than rotator cuff surgeries. MOST of the time the therapy options is to strength up the muscles around it so when you go back for a checkup and the Doctor recommends surgery, you'll have a easier recovery. Don't let it linger on because it will put stress on other areas, especially rotator cuff and the last thing you want is those 2 surgeries at one time. Recovery will be TERRIBLE

AMEN!!! I had a complete tear of the rotator cuff and bicep torn off the labrum. I have about a dozen anchors in my humerus now. Surgery itself wasn't bad, recovery has been very slow and painful. I was in a sling for 6 weeks and out of work for 8 weeks. It's been 14 months. I'm glad I had the surgery but it's been a tough road physically and mentally for me. I went from benching 405 to not being able to bench the bar. I'm back up to 275 on bench but I'm scared of overdoing it and tearing the other shoulder now. Good luck for a speedy recovery.

I appreciate it. I am hoping to take it easy as possible till at least January. At least that way I can fall back on 3 weeks paid time off if need be. I am sick of not being able to work out. Ever since I haven't been able to lift I have really felt like shucks. I was incline benching 315 when mine popped/tore. Glad to see there are some good cases with all this. Hopefully I can get through it as quickly with good results as y'all have.

I've had a shoulder issue going for a few months. Worse part is I get a serious shooting pain off and on. Haven't been to Doc so not sure what it is.
