So how many pounds of bushels of rice do you get per acre.

We planted 4 different varieties this year. All long grain. Some conventional and some clear field varieties.

Cool operation there.

Rice is measured in barrels. 1 barrel=162lbs. The first field we finished made 44 barrels/ac. That was the conventional rice and very pleased with the yield. We are cutting some CL151 and is on track for a much better yield. We have t been able to cut a grain of rice in 3 days with this rain.

We wear the round pointy ones.

Sweet. With rice being grown in wet fields is the yield pretty consistent from one year to the next? I guess what I'm asking is, does weather effect the yield like it would on corn or beans?

That combine cost more than several of our houses together. And cotton pickers cost even more $$$$$$$$.

Don't even mention pickers. Makes my head hurt and then I drink more.

We tend to average in the mid to upper 40ba/ac range every year. Weather as for as rain is really a problem if you get to much on seedling rice and can't get the water down fast. Most rice plants will grow thru shallow water but to deep and it will kill small rice plants. Hot damp weather is when you have to watch for your many types of fungi and diseases that live in rice fields. Also you definatly don't want any rain at all when the rice is heading out and in the flowering stage. Rain knocks the flowers off and than you have false/blank grains. Our biggest problem down here is stink bugs. Some years we have to spray them 2-3 times. Than you got the stem borers, they cut the stem and than you will have a completely dead head of rice. This will wipe you out if you dont catch it early enough. Also I hate crawfish and turtles. They cut the plants at the roots and kill it and eat it. Snakes and alligators are your best friend because they eat the turtles and crawfish. Gators also keep the rats away from the pipes and overflows

Me too! Besides we are all tired of the beach anyway.

Not right now. You would probably win. The fuel company dumped me a big slug of water in the 9330 they are coming to pump that water and fuel out and get it cleaned up. It barely had enough power to pull itself out the field. They don't like water.

I have a friend that just got a new S680 with a 35ft stripper header. It's unbelievable the amount of rice you can pass thru a machine in a day with that set up. He is running about 5mph and just mowing it down. The combine is on tracks so the mud is not a problem for him either.

Only downside to a stripper head is it won't cut down rice/wheat. But when it's all dialed in is awesome.

i'll cook birds fresh in the blind...more y'all get to shoot...I don't even need to shoot!! got hooked while in a sling after shoulder surgery and was camp cook. i don't mind watching, as long as there're birds...we've been missing that last part in our little sliver of the Delta, south of hwy 82, for the last few years. I got a nice little cooking set-up for the blind, but haven't gotten to use it proper!

That's just neat. I was amazed by how big those combines were when we lived in Illinois. Harvest time you could barely breathe because of all the harvesting going on.

That's what I have a little 1026r! Great little tractor for my needs. What's funny is the big combines and harvesters take up the whole road around my area when they move from field to field. They'll drive by my place going to the next cotton or peanut field and I'll be out on my little tractor. Operator is probably sitting in the cab shaking his head at my little Deere.
