Thank God no one was killed or injured and it happened when it did. Could have been really bad during the work week.

I'm not an engineer by any means but the beams on the outside look crazy top heavy to me.

Probably was not all tied together as was required and she came down. The Columns are typical of metal buildings. If it was not braced off and tied together, once she starts going all that force loads everything else to failure.

I are a engineer smile It's common to have larger depth on the top of the column in these open interior structures to overcome the moment at the roof (moment is sort of like torque). I'm familiar with the building but I'm not sure who the engineering company is. Construction wasn't complete so I'm sure there will be a forensic engineer involved. Could be a lot of things at this point.

Could have been sabotaged by somebody. Tie a chain or cable up high on 1 corner column and pull with a truck. Down they all come without the added strength of cross bracing cables, siding and a roof.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I was there Friday. Samuel, my oldest, had a visit to South. We drove over to tour the rec center and were right beside the new practice facility. Looked like about 90% complete on the structural steel to me at a distant glance. I doubt it was an engineering issue, most likely an installation error or hiccup before complete (oops, dang didn't think that would happen). Probably not tightened yet to get square, weekend rolled in so it was left til Monday. Wind from an afternoon storm yesterday could have gotten to it. Just guessing.

Well someone was wrong when they said "This looks like a good place to stop for the week". They probably should have put those last few bolts in.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Looked like they just had a strip footing installed and no temporary bracing.

True. Where the columns and the rafters come together there is a moment connection. My guess is that there was some horizontal or vertical bracing left out at some point along the way for expediency sake during the construction phase and it bit them on the ass.

I took a look at some video on the Fox news site and it seems to support my suspicion of the bracing being omitted. Had the tension rod bracing been installed there would be evidence of it bent up like pretzels all over the carnage and I don't see any of it.

Someone's head ought to roll over this one. If the bracing was indeed left out and they were thinking of installing it last, it was a huge construction management mistake.

I mainly just say it to piss off the Ole Miss folks. I like the Rebel name better myself. I do it for the same reason Aubies say "UAT"

Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, I think from Albany, Georgia with other sub engineering companies. Big company.

Did it pull the strip footing from the ground? or shear the connection bolts? From the standing water I am betting it pulled the strip footing.

It probably has more to do with the inspector than anything else.

I know y'all love to pick at Ole Miss...but we are still the Ole Miss Rebels (for now) and the only thing that changed was the mascot. Used to be Col. Rebel but now a black bear. Liberal student groups and professors petitioned for removal of the Confederate Flag and finally got that accomplished in a back handed way by banning sticks and poles at games back in the late 80's when I was a student. Then they basically worked for 2 decades and finally got Col Reb removed. Then the song Dixie from the band. The name "rebel" is next on the list. Spineless administrators and Progressive administrators making changes.

Whitewashing the south is underway....happening all over.
