Laidback had some beautiful pups available with excellent blood lines at a good price. PM him to see if he has any left.

Step away from the Waterdog book! smile It was a great book 30 years ago but is extremely dated in its training methodology. Instead of worrying about picking up on day 49, make sure the litter has been through ENS.

Forget that line of thinking and buy a well bred dog. Doesn't make a hill of beans if you get a puppy at 49 days or not. That's a total load of BS.

What is your price range your looking at? Plenty of good litters out there in the south.

49th day theory STILL holds true. Why? Because I can control what socialization/exposure happens if I have the pup. If you KNOW what the level/type of exposures are if pup remains at breeder/trainer, no worries. If you don't, 6weeks might not be too early, and 8wks could be too late. New or old, it's ALL theory. The intent behind the earlier theory is just as good today, as it was back when. In a PERFECT scenario for YOUR desires w/the dog, pup can stay indefinitely. JME

....and not that I care to keep up w/the dog world since I stopped working with them, but seems 'ENS' is just a name for half the stuff good breeders and trainers did in different ways, for decades. It's still theory, and what works for you/your dogs is what counts....whether that's some strict ENS or exposing the bitch to sights/sounds/smells while pups are still in the womb....certain witchcraft to all of it, and my 'superstitions' are no better or worse, I'd say.

AND: I talked my son (who wants to help with pup stages) into waiting until after football season and getting a pup so we have time to do it right with his involvement.

Sooo....the dreaded 'Christmas Puppy' seems about right timing.....there's some more dog sacrilege for you. LOL

Seriously....need one ready between November and January....or maybe later

I will admit to being way more OCD about duck dogs than most laugh. Getting a pup on day 49 is fine but I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker. Worry more about the Sire and Dam and their health and. temperament. This is more important than ENS or day of pickup.

If you have a minute read this article about ENS http://breedingbetterdogs.com/article/early-neurological-stimulation
I know Laid-back does it with his litters and this article convinced me to ENS my only litter.

Good luck with your search!!!

Iam a believer in ENS also. My 2 recent DKs came from breeders that go through the program. I can't really make a determination whether these 2 just matured quicker or were just super easy to train...or maybe both. Force fetching is probably my least favorite training, but these 2 are actually pretty fun. I don't know much about the HRC test, but mental stability in the test I do is imperative, as Iam sure it is in the HRC.
