Tonight.
My brother and I got out. He loves bright trick worm. He was throwing weightless bubble gum trick worm.
I was swimming a worm. He started getting bit and I swapped for one of his trick worms. Got a bite or 2 but couldn't stick em.
I think next time I stick to what I have more confidence in. Also, thinking of adding real light weight to my trick worm next time.
We were in about 7 feet of water throwing up into 4 or 5 around boat docks.

I liked to fish weightless worms as a kid, now I don't have the patience to wait that long for a lure to sink. If you've got the time, they'll eventually bite it.

Love bubblegum, merthiolate, and schoolbus yellow trick worms. If you want a faster presentation, buy some hook shank weights and put one on the hook or buy some belly weighted hooks. I do this with trick worms and senkos.

Nail weights my friend. Plus I use a "speed tail" design which dramatically increases the number of bites over a standard trick worm.

Here's the bad part. He showed up spur of the minute and went rummaging through my stuff to find the pink worms he had give me.
I never threw em because I thought no self respecting Guntersville bass would bite em.

If you want a faster fall, get the Zoom Magnum Trick Worms. They're thicker and have a faster fall rate. Can upsize your hook, too, if desired. I fish them without a weight and either let them just fall slowly with gentle pops or really give it a good snap and then let it fall.

Gambler's trick worms seem to have a little more air or something, maybe they're not as dense, as Zoom.

Nothing beats the original Danny Joe trick worm from the earliest days. Those were great.

Go to an extra heavy duty hook. I fish the Owner 3/0 3X strong heavy duty a lot in trick worms. It gives it a fall rate of almost double the rate when using a standard or lighter wire hook. You get the same action without upsizing the hook or adding weight, both of which kill the action.

Clem you are talking about two different things. Danny Joes are FLOATING worms. I think gamblers are too. Trick worms are made to sink. 300 who the hell uses a wire hook on a trick worm? that's asking for trouble. Big bass are very susceptible to trick worms whenever they are shallow. The best places to use them are around trash, boat docks and wood(stumps, laydowns) I've seen guys fish them on 10 lb test. I use 15 or 20 big game depending on the lake. On clear waters like Smith, Marin or Tuscaloosa Seaguar Fluorocarbon. No trick worm is as good as the 8' Crme scoundrel. The very best guys at fishing this way are from the Tuscaloosa area. The Wormshack was where I bought mine.

You'd be surprised. I know a ton of guys that throw them on those light Gamakatsu 2 and 3/0's. Also, you are completely out of your gourd old man! There has never ever ever been a bass caught on an 8" creme scoundrel especially in black with the yellow or white spots. Never. Not a single fish. Don't steer these guys wrong like that.

I generally fish it on fairly heavy stuff (14-20lb) too. Fluorocarbon line also has a faster sink rate than mono too as far as getting it down. I've fished them on line as light at 8lb but that is only in ultra clear water where you have to do it to get bites.

When the water is clear I move it fasterI never stop moving it. More of an impulse strike. Then the line is less crucial , as long as it clear.

Never used the yellow with black spots. I think I've still got one bag of the black with yellow spots left somewhere. You can still get the black and purple with white spots in the 8" if you order directly from Creme on line.

Never used trick worms till this year; been killing 'em with Big Texan color on a 1/8th Owner 4/0 Ultrahead.
Also, like the Luck E Strike Con Man worm

I always heard that you should fish trick or floating worms with light wire hooks. So that's what I did until learning the size-weight of a hook can affect things.

Perch is right about trick and floating being different.

Or you could use an Owner 2/ or 3/ wacky hook in the middle or so of a trick worm with subtle twitches and see how that works.

Often when they seem to stop biting a trick worm you can rig it wacky style and resume getting bites.

Love em, use them regular at the camp. I like being able to watch my lure work, then watch em disappear when a big ole bass strikes....

Try the Yum Dinger for a faster sink than the Zoom trick worms.
