Let's hear from some of y'all that have had success hunting out of natural ground blinds.

What are you looking for when selecting your site?

What design do you use to construct it?

What are the most important factors to pay attention to when building a natural ground blind?

Location, location, location. Once you find it look for some small tree's that you can hinge cut over, but will stay alive. I try to find where 3-4 tree's are like this that go around me. If you can't find this, look for fallen tree tops to put your turkey lounger in. I've used pallets to weave brush into, as well as drive 3-4 small post into the ground and zip tie pine or cedar tree's and limbs to the post.

The first thing I look for is a tree to climb! If it's not there, I'll set up in the shade with the right wind direction.

I'll cut limbs, pines or cedars, and use them for cover from ground height to the top of my head. I'll leave gaps or holes to shoot thru.

Most important factors to me are being still, wind direction, having room to raise weapon to shoot, and being in the shadows.

I do it frequently turkey hunting and occasionally deer hunting. I just find a good tree to set up against and cut leafy branches and stick them in the ground in a circle around me. Works like a charm.

If I'm rifle hunting, I just plop down at the spot that offers the best shot opportunity. You don't need much cover unless the deer are right on top of you. Gobbler lounger and shooting sticks is my preferred rifle hunting stand

Blumsden I like your idea of hinge-cutting the trees. I've ready plenty about this for creating browse and cover for deer, but never considered it as a method for a ground blind. Very nice!

NWALJM,I built one several years ago on a food plot to turkey hunt out of and it stayed alive for 3 years. I would just trim some of the limbs. It was so brushed in i had turkeys within feet of me in front and behind and they never new i was there.

One of my best ones was in a huge blown down tree top. I cleared out the middle and set up a chair, with nothing else. No camo netting or anything, the limbs concealed me. It was on the side of a mountain, on a bench, and the deer had to walk in front of me. It was hard to get to, but I shot a deer the first time I hunted it.

I've done this and have killed one of my best Alabama bucks sitting in a blind made of just a few pine branches stuck in the ground around me. Simple setup. Use enough to break up your outline but not too much that it becomes very noticeable.

Another factor to consider, and worth discussing:

How long ahead of the season, or when you plan to hunt the blind, do you prefer to have it set up?

I do it ahead of time, maybe a couple of weeks. I do all before the season. Use pine, cedar, or beechnut limbs. Beechnut keeps it's leaves all year.

Palm fronds angle cut and stuck in the mud around a blown down tree to sit on.

I just sit down up against a tree in the best area of them traveling. I have killed all my deer while im snacking. Sometimes im 5ft up in a tree. I pee wherever. That scent stuff does not work. I have had dogs follow my foot steps and circle the tree im sitting in.

I forgot to add. Them 2 dogs nosed my complete walking path. I had rubber boots on that i keep out on my wood pile. Clothes stayed outside. The whole scent control deal. Boots so covered in scent away that they looked like they were dipped in it. Clothes dampened they were so heavily sprayed. Had better luck with no scent control and dip in my lip. Spittin all around my stand. And i get my share of racks.
