My oldest son just reminded me this is the last year he can participate in the youth hunt! At first i was like wth is he talking about? Then I realized he's fixing to turn 15, and will be 16 nxt year. Man they do grow up too fast I remember like it was yesterday, he would always wanna hold my hand to and from the stand..
How many people am i willing to sacrifice for freedom? Everyone. All of them...
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

James I'm in same boat, son will turn 15 soon, seems like yesterday he was napping on my lap in the tree stand, now he is picking and hunting his own spots.

My younger son sticks real close but mainly because his older brother told him all the dirty tricks I played on him.
Favorite that comes to mind is we were walking back to the truck in the dark, and said to him "Did you hear that noise? May be a wolf! Get ready and we'll make a run for it! On three we take off.".
Then as soon as I counted one I started running (helped he was looking the other way). He was several yards behind and started howling "STOP, WAIT UP!". And I did, after a few more seconds.
He tells the younger son often that he (younger) has it made and that I've mellowed quite a bit. Not sure his younger brother believes him.

Neither of mine would hunt with me. They think it's nuts to go out in the woods for anything. Probably doesn't help that we almost step on rattlers and cottonmouths and run across the occasional gator.
The youngest has decided recently that he will buy a freezer and start hunting so he can make jerky out of the whole thing though. It's a love for food, not the outdoors.
I'm glad you guys get to hunt with your children.

Sorry your kids aren't hunters yet. Just don't push it on them and they will come around as long as they know the invite is always open.
If he likes Jerky, do what I do. I have two dehydrators and get the processor to slice a deer for me in all jerky meat (thin sliced across the grain), except for the loins and backstraps. HB or Sausage the scraps. I then make my own for a fraction of what a processor charges. I could do my own slicing, but I'll just pay the pro on that. My son eats that stuff like nothing else. Other people like it too when he leaves them some.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
