Hey guys, just curious the "prevailing thought" on fertilizer in lakes & ponds & the effects on fishing ... There's a place that's been fertilizing every single week -- claiming it keeps the oxygen levels up during the hot summer months ... True?
Just curious; thx! BGD

I know the small lake that I used to live on would experience a slowdown in the fish bite every time we would fertilize. I'm not sure of the cause. When the water would turn a cloudy green, the fish would quit biting until the cloudiness went away.
A quick google search found an article written by UC Davis that said fertilizing during hot temps is generally not recommended because it can lead to excess algae which then depletes the oxygen as the algae dies and decomposes.

abolt - not sure, man - that's why I'm asking the question ...
Yelp Softly - ya, that's what we experienced a few months ago ... the *ONLY* thing we could get 'em to bite was a weightless u-tale worm in that scuppernong (sp?) color ... even then, the bite was tough ...
