Not there enough to shoot them and when I pull up they run like they stole the pears and I have a huge chestnut tree that I would like to get some nuts off of this year

Peanuts, corn, bird seed, bread. Squirrels will eat just about anything.

Dried corn on the cob. I've also caught them on pine cones covered in peanut butter and bird seed.

Try Just One Bite rat poison. It's corn based and they will clean it up.
