So I leased a new piece of land and it had an old hog trap on it. Its not very large 4' tall maybe the same wide, 5' or 6' deep. Has a drop door on the front that slides down in a track. Seems the trigger is some paddle in the back that pivots somehow.

So the questions, should I clean it in any way? I think it's long unused. Secondly how do I set it and bait it? The door is all the way up sitting on the cage edge.

Does it have a top on it? If yes, cut it out or you will catch deer.

It does have a top. It seems the catch bar runs across the top. Since photobucket wen t batty I will get on something and post some pics

Sounds like you should cut out the top and bait that thing up.

Don't waste your time. It is too short to cut the top out of. Pigs would climb out as well.

So that's probably why they abandoned it so it's basically useless

What is your goal? Are you just wanting to catch a pig or are you wanting to reduce the population?

Honestly I don't yet have a goal. The immediate would be to get a hog or two I guess. I just leased this parcel the neighboring land owner says it has a large hog population. And in my scouting I found this trap so I figured I would see if I could put it to use. I put cameras out last week I'm going to look and see if they show any Hogs I left one near that trap and put some corn near it. If I do find there's a large population I would definitely go into a management mode.

Oh well, I have a corral trap I would let you use to catch a few hogs with but you are a bit far. Barry is right you can use a small trap or corral trap to catch a few but if you want to reduce the population you will have to use a larger trap to catch the whole sounder.

Appreciate the offer, I understand the distance issues. If I have sizable population I will likely look into making some form of sizable trap. I might try to modify this one for catching one or two. If I chop the top off how high should I take the walls?
