I am considering buying a 270 Tikka rifle in stainless. I have got caught up in the hype for these rifles and I want one I can hunt in the elements with, thus the reason for the stainless. Let me know how satisfied you are with your Tikka rifle if you will. Likes and dislikes especially.

I have always been an automatic Browning fan, but I think I want to broaden my horizons a little. Just let me have some input from your experiences.

Thanks

Gander Mountain in Florence has one in 308 and 30-06 at 25% off. I think it's priced around $569 originally was $749. If you're not set on a 270. The Tikkas are super accurate. The stock would be the only negative but for your stated purpose it will suit your needs well.

I've got a stainless .300WM T3. It has the best factory trigger I've ever had on a gun. The only thing I'm not a big fan of is their composite stocks. I put an after market Bell & Carlson on it. The newer T3 composite stocks are supposed to be greatly improved.

The ones at Gander are the new T3X. It has the new stock on them. It does feel better and it feels more solid than hollow. I do like it better than the original.

I don't think the new features are worth the price. I would buy a closeout and save for a Mcmillan Edge stock. I'm a fan of the Superlights at Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse, but then I've been on a light rifle kick for a few years.

Why the WSM in a long action Tikka?

I have been in the field today and couldn't get back with you. Was the one you looked at stainless, or was it blued. I am dead set on my next rifle being a stainless.

I have a .308 blued T3 with black synthetic stock which has been my main deer rifle for two or three years. It's sub-MOA and likes the 165grain Federal Sierra Game Kings.

I also have a blued, walnut stocked T3 in .260 which is also sub-MOA.

I'll probably make it my main deer rifle this year except for short range woods where I want to use a .45-70 Marlin Guide Gun (just because).

Like Shaw says, the synthetic stocks aren't anything to get excited about, but they work, and you don't have to worry about getting them messed up in the rain or in the woods.

I think Tikkas are good value for the money. The fact that the barrels come out of the same hopper that the barrels for the Sakos do is a significant consideration. Their triggers are excellent too, and don't require any after market work.

The T3s keep the price down by only building their actions scaled for long action cartridges, even when they're chambered for short action calibers, but I wouldn't consider that a noticeable downside unless I were in the market for a truly lightweight mountain rifle for hunting Dall Sheep or such.

The triggers are good but with one 10.00 spring change and less than 30 minutes you cam have a phenomenal trigger!
Synthetic stocks can be improved by removing the butt pad and packing it with a variety of things, bubble wrap works. Some people use expanding foam.
Replacing the butt pad with a Limbsaver air chamber pad does a great job of reducing recoil.
Great platforms stock and with very little work can be hard to beat!

Fair enough. I'm just saying that with Tikka being a long action anyway, I might choose a long action and skip the extra expense and possible loading troubles caused by the WSM. I mean what will a 270 WSM do that a 7mm rem mag won't? The .277 may be 100 FPS faster with bullets 10 grains lighter.

Then again a looney doesn't have to have a reason. I just wondered if there was something I wasn't thinking about. If there was,I may want one.

I put a Bell & Carlson Medlist stock on mine and had Gundoc Cerakote it.

I really like the rail too. It solves a lot of mounting problems IMHO.

I found a Tikka T3 closeout stainless 270 in the original T3 design on Eurooptic.com for $568. Just go to the Tikka link on their site for closeouts. Hope this helps.

I've got a T3 lite stainless in 30-06. It is put together really nice and is very lightweight. The bolt is smooth as silk and the trigger is very good. My only complaint is that the barrel heats up after a few consecutive shots to the point that it drifts and shoots sporadically. I have to let it cool down to get good groups again. For hunting this isn't an issue but for just shooting it's a pain.

I plan on ordering a T3X in a 308 stainless the first of the month. All the reviews I have read are very good. I was looking for a gun with a threaded barrel and have read a lot of reviews and decided to go with the Tikka. The stock seems to be better on the T3X but I am sure I will have to order an upgrade to get the 1000' shots with any consistency.
