Big doesn't always equal success but it can help. These guys definitely will be interesting to watch this season. From Bruce Feldman at Sports Illustrated: The Crimson Tide have some Freaky D-linemen. Jamar King is a 290-pounder who was clocked at a sub 4.8, according to AL.com earlier this spring. Towering Raekwon Davis, a 6’7”, 315-pounder, ran 5.1. Former No. 1 overall recruit Da’Shawn Hand is another guy who turns heads. Payne, though, is their headliner this year. He helped anchor the nation’s top defense in 2016. He’s shed about 10 pounds this off-season and figures to be even more of a headache for rival offenses. At 310 pounds, he was timed at 5.03 after running a 4.93 40 last spring. He also benched pressed 545 pounds. https://www.si.com/college-football/2017/07/07/freaks-list-workout-warriors-2017-part-3Back in the early '90s, I interviewed Joe King after he got out of prison in Florida. I'd been around some big guys at AU and UA but he was just a tremendously big, tall, thick, muscular guy. Just shockingly big to me. (Also was humble, at the time, and IMO truly desiring to get his life in order, which didn't happen, unfortunately.) And now guys of this size aren't common everywhere but they're not completely unusual anymore. Kinda goes to the "are we in the best era for athletes?" thread. Guys this big, this athletic, this strong and speedy? Amazing.

If they can't stop Bama's offense from going 3 and out the whole second half then it doesn't matter. Saban screwed the team by getting rid of Kiffin when he did. Sark didn't have a clue how to move the chains in the second half. Kiffin would've pulled something out of his back pocket to get us a first down (remember when we threw it to the big offensive lineman?)

I think it would have been interesting to sit with Kiffin during that game to have him chart/call plays based on what he was watching.

Hard to say...Kiffin laid some turds while he was there, as well. The entire last part of the season in 2016 wasn't very pretty from an offensive standpoint, once folks figured out Hurts wasn't much of a downfield passing threat.

Didn't Hurts go to the Manning's QB camp this summer? Hopefully he picked up some things. I like the kid. I also like the slingin' Hawaiin. Tua said in an interview that one big reason he picked BAMA was because he is a christian and he liked how people down here aren't afraid to show that they are christians. I thought was pretty cool.

I can't imagine being as big AND, at the same time, as fast as those guys. It's just a surreal combination to me.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's there weren't that many big imposing players around but now..good grief. I go around these guys occasionally when my wife is working with them. I'm not a big guy but around those guys I'm really small. They're massive I can't imagine being as big AND, at the same time, as fast as those guys. It's just a surreal combination to me.

Back in 1990 or '91, sometime around there, former UA lineman Joe King got out of prison and was back home in the Gadsden area. I went down to interview him over dinner at a Quincy's restaurant.
He already was there and when he stood up to shake my hand an introduce himself, I literally was shocked at his size. I'd only seen one other guy similar -- Steve Wilson, an offensive lineman at Auburn who played a couple of years and left -- but Joe was just different. Physically imposing, muscular, in good shape despite being in prison, and it was just shocking to me that a guy THAT big could be a mobile, fast, lineman and/or football player.
Today, he'd be just another big guy on the line most likely.
An aside, he was one of the best interviews I'd ever had. Honest about what had happened, said he wanted to turn things around, polite. He battled a bunch of demons and fell to the wayside again, which I hated to see happen.

I was discussing that with someone the other day. I remember Roosevelt Patterson being a giant when I was a kid. Looking back at 1992 Alabama Roster he was listed at 290, (so probably a little less). He was biggest on team. One of only 3 over 280. Alabama's roster today has 22 players over 300, biggest at 350.
