Photobucket got me, bastards! I'm going to look it close in a here in a few. In a past life I kept a 72 Ford Courier running and I built a 75 Harley Davidson Sportster from baskets so I'm familiar with points, condensers and brake problems. If the car is complete and the motor is solid I can make it run. If not I'll haul it to Missouri and let Swampfever check it out.

I believe Swampy can get it for 50.00 delivered if he tried.

We looked at it. It's complete but its rough. It was last tagged in 1980. Wires are rat chewed so it would need a whole new harness. There's light rust in the rear fender wells and underneath. It could be restored but it would take a full frame off. The guy wouldn't give me a number and I told him I didn't want to offend him with a low ball offer.

It is more or less the same type of car but 20+ years newer.

Miatas can be made into a super fun cheap car for sub $6,000 or so.

This^^^^

I have friends who have over 300k trouble free miles on theirs. They are the Toyota Tacoma of the sports car world. Super reliable, the most fun you will have outside the bedroom, easy to work on.

I've had about 10 of them. I've turbocharged them, raced them, worked on a Miata race team, restored them, modded them, been all over the Southeast in one.

Here's a picture of my latest project I picked up for $3000 including a factory matching hard top worth about $1500. Not sure what direction I'm taking on this build, just having fun with it for now. This may be the one I swap a LSX motor into...

Keep in mind that this car is now actually a "vintage car" as it is now 27 years old.

I will say that MG's are fun. I had several of those before I got smart and got into Miatas. Assume on the MG that you will have a lot of rust to repair (Are you handy with a welder and sheetmetal?) and also assume that you will have a lot of wiring issues to sort out (How are you with automotive electrical stuff?) The engines in the MG are actually pretty robust, but you will learn how to synchronize dual carburetors. grin

I will quote our ace motorcycle mechanic that was president of our vintage motorcycle club:

"The idea of owning a vintage motorcycle (car) is greater than actually owning a vintage motorcycle (car)." grin

Remember that...

I still have two customers with MGBs. I have never cared much for working on British cars in general, but a TR6 or an AH lighting 3000 with a chevy 350 would work nicely.

Thanks for the advice folks. Its bad rough way worse than we had hoped. My sons upset but I don't have the money to restore this thing! When I found rust it was pretty much deal over unless he just wants to give it away.

Mangler, keep looking. When I was in my late teens my dad got me into rebuilding old cars. It was some of the best memories I have of my dad who passed in 2003. I still have the 66 Pontiac we rebuilt. I now have a 68 Plymouth GTX that I am working on with my 19yo son. It gets expensive but it is well worth it just in the time you have with your kids. I'll keep a look out and if I see anything in my area I'll give you a heads up.

Irishguy, I want to get a Miata, but another car is the last thing I need.
I have the BMW, K5 and soon to be a car for work.
Eventually I want to LS swap Bob the Blazer and my E36.

If I get another I'll be a used car lot
