What is like the bare minimal someone should be trying to turkey hunt? I have only been turkey hunting a couple times in my life, but a friend of mine said one person needs at least 300-400 acres of land to really turkey hunt. I figure it just depends if there are birds there and if they stay toward the center of the property or toward the edge.

as much as you can afford. you can kill them on small tracks and large tracks I just need roaming around space. I like to have options if the first, second or third spots don't produce. I'd say 1k minimum. whether you have 2 or three tracks

Technically there is no minimum but I want as much land as possible. I hunted WMA last year almost exclusively and while public land has its drawbacks I LOVED having thousands of acres to play with.

Blum pretty much covered it. I wouldn't hesitate to lease 40 acres of hardwoods if it was surrounded by mostly young pines. Small tracts can produce depending upon the land surrounding it. But there are also 300 acre tracts that I probably wouldn't lease if it was the wrong type of habitat.
You can never have too much. Our club is 3,000 acres but I still hear lots of birds on the neighbor's property that I can't hunt.

One of the best places I ever had was only 100 acres. I prefer a lot more tho.

All good answers. Some of the best properties I have hunted have been small, just always holds birds. But also hunted some places with thousands of acres and not have much turkeys.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Turkey hunting land is just like money - you never have enough. No matter how much you get, you always think you need more. See my signature line. From all the good replies you've already gotten you can see that how much you need to hunt varies greatly, but in a club setting you need a lot more land per member for turkey than for deer. I think that's about the only rule you can apply.

Blum nailed it with the "parking the truck" suggestion! I'll add, it's much easier to get free hunting from the old man/woman that ownes a few acres here and there, than it is with the big timber man tracts. Land map GIS has killed more turkeys for me, than my calling abilities, for sure.
