If you have hunting land in North Baldwin County, you best invest in some good bear proof feeders. Over the last few years, we've had a few pass through but now we have a resident. We had one feeder destroyed last year, and after this bear visited a few weeks ago, he didn't like the fact that the battery was dead in the feeder and corn wasn't coming out of it. I heard that the neighbor across the creek was getting a bunch of pics of em by the highway last year. Guess they ran out of corn.

I found a pile of bear scat in Crenshaw County early this year. Didn't have any cameras out.
"Now boy, are you sure you can skin griz?"

They're everywhere in FL. Found a pile of scat with all sorts of hair around one of those paper/plastic meat tray liners yesterday - funnier than hell when I finally figured out what it was.

I'm glad the population is growing, but I hate it for you guys having to deal with the problems and Florida and Alabama not having hunting seasons.
Florida had one, had the biology to support it, knocked out 300+ bears in two days, and the anti-hunting/political crowd went apeshit. This year they're spending $850K -- and much of that from hunting license fees -- to "educate" the public instead of having a hunting season. I suspect they won't have another one down there for years, if ever.
The right politician's wife and kids haven't hit a bear with their vehicle yet or the right person hasn't been mauled in a yard. That's what it'll take, though. Stupid anti-hunters/politicians.

Somebody on FB posted a picture of a black bear in a residential area in Sylacauga very recently. I grew up there and never would have expected to see that - ever.

This time of year, the local bears down here will travel hundreds of miles looking for that Almighty split tail. One was photographed on the railroad tracks west of Selma a few years ago.

The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter. They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge. Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away. It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat. Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leave s, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

We'll have another bear hunt in FL in another year or two. Enough hunters sent in letters to commission and were involved in process. It definitely won't be twenty years or more like last hunt took because the public sent enough nasty letters to the commission and gave them earful. Media showed bear attacks throughout the state on tv. Plus hunters want it. We just need to motivate our commission.
