When the snakes are still crawling, Lacrosse rubber snakeboots. After they stop crawling, insulated Lacrosse rubber boots. I hunt areas that has a good bit of water. I can walk miles in them with no problems. If I didn't hunt wet areas, I would wear lace up boots.

I know nothing about public land around Birmingham. I'm staying on my lease from last year, which has a stream running through the middle of it. I had to cross it most days I hunted. My worry is that I have to hike a long way after that stream. I feel like rubber boots would make my feet sweat so much.

For as long as I remember (probably the past 25 years) I've worn rubber boots. Two or three years ago I decided to get a pair of lightweight leather boots again, so I bought some Danners (I bought the High Ground). I do still keep a pair of rubber boots, but nowadays I'm probably 70/30 leather to rubber.

My Lacrosse AlphaBurly 1000's (I think, maybe 1200) have served me well for 5 or 6 years now. Very comfortable, very warm with a single pair of good socks, even down into single digits and low teens. Yet, somehow, not excessively hot when the weather warms up into the 50's. Only negative I've found is they are a little heavy. If it's any warmer than that, I wear my snake boots - Lacrosse pull-ons. I think they're called "Lacrosse Adders" or something like that. They've started leaking a small amount but it took 3 or 4 years for the leak to develop.

Mix of Rubber and Lace Up. Rubber is good for scent control if you only wear them in the woods. If you pump gas in them it doesn't matter.
I usually do 1200 Rubber Boots when cold on the stand. Danner Elk hunters when walking or mild.
I don't wear any of my hunting boots until I start walking to the stand.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

If you have blister-rubbing issues then the boots are the wrong size.
You can alleviate that by either getting the right size or by possibly adding insoles (like Dr. Sholes) to make the fit tighter and possibly negate the rubbing. I had to do this with some that are a size larger than I need and it works. I use the SofSole insoles on top of a regular over-the-counter brand and it's just enough with my socks to make things better.

Lacrosse Coil Zip-up #425625....waterproof, snakeproof, briarproof, lightweight, barbwire resistant, athletic sole instead of boot lug, AND discontinued. If you look around you can still find them for around $150.

Rocky lace up for long walks in mountains and Lacrosse 16" for bottom land and walk in. But mostly a pair of slip on pac style with heavy wool liners because I only have walk a couple hundred yards in gun hunts.

Pretty much anything made by Danner will make you smile.. I'm not much on lace ups anymore, but I picked up (I've been wanting) a fine pair of Danners (reg 200+) for 89.99

Here in Alabama I wear Danner and Lacrosse snake boots but am actively looking for a lighter boot to wear in the mountains in the fall.

60 + degrees I wear lace up snake boots by Irish Setter.
Under 60 degrees it depends on the amount of water in the area I will be hunting. May be Lacrosse rubber boots or could be Danner lace ups.

LaCrosse Burly Classics when bowhunting or stand hunting. LaCrosse leather wellingtons when cooped up in the shooting house with the boom stick.
I will NEVER own another pair of rocky boots. The past 3 pairs I have had every one the sole peeled off in chunks.
