Has there ever been a team that was caught using a receiver/speaker in a quarterback's helmet connected to an assistant coach's radio transmitter sitting in a box seat? It seems that a coach could use a key word on a field location with an open receiver, maybe deep 1, deep 2 and deep 3 for the 3 hashmark divided areas of play. I've seen pass plays where the quarterback suddenly spins and throws a blind pass to a spot like that when you have no idea the quarterback is even looking that way. No doubt there are receivers that small that would work. Do the officials check the helmets during a game?

ARTICLE 3. SPEAKERS IN HELMETS.

The Coach-to-Player system allows a member of the coaching staff in the bench area to communicate to a designated offensive or defensive player with a speaker in his helmet. Communication from the coaches’ booth via the system is prohibited. The communication begins once a game official has signaled a down to be over, and is cut off when the play clock reaches 15 seconds or the ball is snapped, whichever occurs first.

NFL has it. One player on each side of ball, Green dot on back of helmet signifies who is in communication

Although I think it would be cool for colleges to have on offense and defense (with a QB and LB), the finances don't work out for all of them. Unless the NCAA helped all schools or someone like Microsoft or Apple donated or offered at a cut rate, some universities would probably not be able to afford it. I guess you'd have to have helmets for each or maybe the top 3 QBs and LBs, in case they got injured or were benched. Not every school is a cash cow like the Power schools and that kind of stuff adds up.

The NFL, for all its warts, is able to control things like this with specifics/rules and the owners can easily pay for it.

But it would be cool. If I was a college coach I'd use them for some practice drills to keep the other side on their toes.

The may have 278,000,000 encryption codes. They do not have that many frequencies.

linky

Shoot I wish the US had 1/4 of those for emergency comms. We continue to trade off freqs for money - that we'll never get back.
