I didn't know that they did any testing out on public roads...I thought that was what that track was out beside the Hyundai complex.

I'm surprised they test with no drivers. Even the Tesla's you still have to actually touch the steering wheel like every 60 seconds or something like that. I would trust the Tesla version before any of the others because their whole design is based on tech. But I'm with idot I don't even really like being a passenger with some folks much less a computer that we all know have glitches all the dang time!!

There was a time when I was younger that tech marketing folks touted video teleconferencing would replace face to face meetings so people didn't have to drive all over the place. But people didn't like it as well as face to face meetings so we still have them. I visit many places that have large VTC rooms yet we are still there in person.
I believe autonomously driving cars are coming but dont believe adoption will be overwhelming and 30 years from now no one will be living out Rush's Red Barchetta lyrics.

Theres no doubt the tech is here and will become the norm at some point but it will take a while for it to be perfected to the point that people will feel safe being in them and/or around them on the road. As for me I want to be in control of my vehicle at all times and it will take me much longer than most to decide to buy one

I'm sure the folks that love technology and have to text their friends and check their Facebook status every minute will love it. But it ain't for me. As crazy as traveling the roads have become with the distracted driving bunch out there I still actually enjoy driving.

I could take a nap on the way to......... wherever. And if it's a long way...........take another nap.

Take pictures of all the crap I'm traveling past and post it.

I could pester you all twice as much as I do now laugh

Will insurance premiums go down or up based on your driving record...if you're no longer driving the car?

Wouldn't you technically be "off the hook" for a lawsuit regarding an accident if you were in a driverless vehicle? If you're in a wreck, does the manufacturer get sued instead of you?

Would this spell the end of DUI's, since you're not the one driving?

I believe Tesla is the only manufacturer with a driverless car who has had a fatality occur. Guy's car failed to see an 18 wheeler trailer across the road, and was decapitated while watching a Harry Potter movie.

I also think that Tesla is the only one that has actually started putting them in higher numbers on the road. I don't know of any others that are actually selling them yet, maybe so, but I haven't heard about them.

How many of ya'll would get in the back seat of one of them, locked and strapped in tomorrow at noon programmed for a trip from Birmingham to Gulf Shores? Not me.
