I'm about to have to buy a new truck. I've done no research thus far but plan to.

I figured with all the experts on all things we have here on this site I could save myself some time and just ask y'all.

Ill be buying one of the three major brands. It will be a 4x4 with a Diesel engine. The truck will Either be a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton. It won't be a dually.

My question is, is there any major issues with the engines or transmissions that y'all know about?

I been lookin, my brother bought a 2017 f250 an that 6.7 will scat an that truck is so freakin nice its rediculous. Ive looked at alot of chevys to an they are super nice to so id say that its between ford or chevy.cummins makes a good motor but Dodge can pound sand. I drive a 1992 reg cab toyota 4x4, quiet possibly one of the nicest ones left in existence, not to brag but its closest ive ever seen to what one looked like when it was new. That bein said i need more freakin room man,its killin me! Good luck on your search brother an let us know what you decide.

I'd go with a dodge for diesel. Then a chevy. Then ford as the last choice.

I would determine a lot of the decision on what your local dealers are like.

There's a reason about 90% of hot shot drivers drive Dodge......Cummins.

If you're not gonna be pulling a lot of weight often, look at a 1/2 ton Dodge with the V6 eco diesel. I work with a feller has one , 30 MPGs .

Dealership about 20 min from the house has the new Nissan titan xd diesel crew cab 4wd for 38 and change, and that's not the base work truck either;it's got big nav screen and b/up camera, etc. They've got the Cummins and aisin trans. Pretty good setup. Think it's rated to tow around 13 thousand pounds or so. Also comes with a 5 year/100k mile bumper to bumper warranty

I drive a 2017 F250.. the dodges can't hold a candle to it. Their new 6.6 engine is crap.

At work we got a new one ton duranax and our truck driver says the dodge he had before can't keep up with it.

I have a '15 duramax and haven't had any problems out of in. Had an '05 before that and the difference is mind blowing. Obviously my choice is chevy, ford, and then dodge. Know a guy that farms with both an F250 and duramax and he says the ford wont hold a candle to the power of the duramax fwiw.

I'm driving a 07 dodge dually now. The truck pulls great but I've had LOTS of
Problems out of it. When I bought it I was doing a fair amount of heavy hauling. Now I don't haul as much. That's why I don't want another dually and I might go with a 3/4 ton.

I am specifically looking for any info on first hand knowledge on issues with any of the big 3 diesels.

I've got a duramax with very few problems. It's an 06 though.

The duramax and Allison combo is about as reliable as you can get. You can argue performance between the different engines all day long, but for simple reliability you really can't argue that it's the best motor/tranny combo.
