Something not beat to heck but general wear and tear is ok. Don't need a scope. Thanks. Bolt gun only please. Local, reasonable distance from Birmingham. I drive to Cullman, Tuscaloosa, and Guntersville weekly.

Just looking at the calibers you listed, have you considered a 300 Blk? You can get a bolt gun in the Ruger American line for under $400 I believe. My son is still a few years away from needing one but that's the model I'm considering. Mainly because they also come with a threaded barrel to accept a suppressor which I plan to use for the young fellow.

I have considered the 300 blk actually since most of his shots will be less that 100 yards. I once had a 308 hand load for him that acted much like a 300blk but was about 300fps faster than the same weight in 300blk. He liked it. I may put a platform together for him to shoot and move him up to a 6.5 Grendel eventually by swapping uppers. But for now I wanna get a bolt gun to let him shoot that I can add a limb saver recoil pad on to increase lop when I wanna shoot it.

That was my suggestion. Look at the Ruger American Ranch rifle model 6968. I think Remington chambers a bolt gun to 300 Blk also.
