Had to relocate one this morning. Lol! Lil' fella showed up in our pond this morning so we moved him back to the beaver pond on the creek. Only about 150 yards between the two so I'm thinking this could be a pretty regular thing.

COOL!!

What happens if that little fellow goes through a 330?

Seriously, does one have to report it? I have no idea.

If one were to go through a 330 it would kill him. If they step on a CDR rigged with a sack of rocks at the bottom of a drowner it will kill him.

And if any of that ever happened to me I'd report it! wink

Would it even need to be reported?

Would I keep the gator to give to game and fish, dispose of it, or let it lay where it wad killed in the trap?

I don't read anything about what to do, but could have missed it.

Just curious, though I don't ever see it happening to me.

David B.

Beaver trapping during the summer months down here is never dull...

I've seen everything from fish to birds caught in traps and snares.

I know in the hunting section, it reads permit only.

And in trapping, we are not intentionally setting traps for alligators.

I'm just asking a what if question/ scenario. If I break a beaver dam, and set a 330 in the channel, to catch beaver, I'm gonna catch other things I don't want, ie. fish, turtles, sticks, alligator, etc.

Was just wondering what legal thing to do was. On most things other than turtles, they are dead when you get there in a 330.

David B.

Boff that's what is called a non-target catch.

It happens! No way to avoid it.

It isn't covered or discussed because there isn't any solution.

Didn't think it was.

But if I was to catch an alligator in a 330, I know I'd want to take pics and tell someone.

However, it wouldn't be worth it due to all the possible "POO" it would cause in proving it was a non-target catch.

Do you prefer rod or cable drowning setups ? If cables, what kind of lock do you use ?

I made my own locks out of stainless. All I have are cable setups but plan to try some rods.

First beaver catch was on a rod, but seeing how they can be a PITA to transport/store. Considering trying a cable setup next time.

I've got a place to work on later this year when it dries up some. High water now makes access almost impossible.

Cables are convenient for storage and transport.

I'd like to have some of both (cables and rods) for convenience in different situations.

The drowning rods seem like they would be great when I'm trapping on dams or road crossing where I actually drive my truck right up to my sets. I'll probably buy some of the prefabricated carbon fiber rods next fall.

Right behind the head just like you see me holding the one in the pic.

I do however suggest using pliers to get your lure out. Those little teeth are just like needles.
