I'm moving to Guntersville next month and was wondering what kind of public land options there are in the area.

Thanjs in advance for any info/advice!

Guntersville State Park is loaded with deer. wink

Wish I could help you but my only advice is to take up year 'round fishing up there.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Well i can honestly tell you.... Your movin to a very void of public land area. Skyline is our nearest wma an it gets pounded. Other than tva land your options are limited. But hey you can do what i do travel all over creation and hunt everywhere else but close to home hehe.. Seriously marshall co is depressing. Pm me closer to deer season an ill see can i point you in the right direction

I wouldn't waste time in or near Guntersville. I'm looking else where because I've hunted around here. It's depressing. I go to Skyline and Bankhead and once in a while lucky to hunt on my buddys club in Madison county.

Thanks for the responses. Doesn't sound super promising but I'm coming from Texas where the closest public land is three hours away so anything is better than that.

Its there ill see can i find it for you later, all i can say is you are trading a target rich environment for basically no targets at all. I mean we got some deer in decent numbers an scarcley few turkeys just no land to really huntem on publically. Now dont let this mess with you too bad i spent quiet awhile in texas and i can honestly say your comin to gods country no doubt and it aint the whole state its really just marshall co. We have some of the finest public land in the nation just not like rock throwin distance or nothin. Skyline is bout 45min from gville an it has lots of deer and turkey. And to be honest id just save my money when i got here an get in a club orrrrrr, youll have to travel anyways just wma hunt. Ive hunted all over south texas and east texas basically looks like here just a little on the swampy side and minus slingin corn all over the place. Bama sounds frustratin and it is but when you can kill here... You can kill anywhere. FACT! ILL see can i find that map for you

I guess I should have started by saying I'm from ga and grew up hunting with family in Alabama. Only been in Texas for the last three years and by Texas I mean west Texas desert with no whitetails and a week long muley season so I'm actually looking forward to getting back to hunting in Alabama.

In the Guntersville area there may not be much difference other than green instead of cactus.

Good luck with your move, welcome (early) to Guntersville - a nice town - and good luck with your hunting search.

nope, no ducks in alabama, especially guntersville. Better try Mississippi for waterfowl.

Skyline has plenty of deer and hunters but we'll worth hunting.

Nice. The cheese facility they built in Clovis, created a new industry for that area.

If you ever want company to scout Skyline, let me know. I would like to explore that area as well.

Skyline is ok if you put tons of time into it and can keep on pushing through after tons of trips of seeing nothing but other hunters. Everywhere. That live and know the area really well. Nice to get out in the woods and enjoy it all. Just dont expect to kill one. Thats what i do anyway

I hunted skyline my whole life.. Ive killed a buncha deer up there.... I hate them mountains with a passion and i dont care if i ever see that place again. Ill prolly be there in october.. What id do for some flat land.. Ohh north alabama is a hilly sucker and i hate it..i mean love it. Not really but its all i got. You fellers in the south need to hug a tree on them south alabama pancake wma's.. An dont ever complain cause you could live in marshall co.

I've got a random question for you guys familiar with the area. The house I was buying fell through and I'm kind of desperate for a place to rent now. I start work Monday and my fiance and kids are staying with my mom untill I find somewhere so I need a place asap. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are some town homes for rent I think af Gunter's Landing. Call Steve Carver or Bert Phillips at REMax.

Anyone know where I can get a detailed/topo map of skyline?

On a side note I'm going to have very limited time to scout before teal season next month, if any of y'all in the area chase ducks and wouldn't mind having someone tag along I'd greatly appreciate it (and i'll cover gas, breakfast, shells, and my word that I won't go back and hunt your spot)

Thanks
