I'm moving to Guntersville next month and was wondering what kind of public land options there are in the area.

Thanjs in advance for any info/advice!

Guntersville State Park is loaded with deer. wink

Wish I could help you but my only advice is to take up year 'round fishing up there.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Well i can honestly tell you.... Your movin to a very void of public land area. Skyline is our nearest wma an it gets pounded. Other than tva land your options are limited. But hey you can do what i do travel all over creation and hunt everywhere else but close to home hehe.. Seriously marshall co is depressing. Pm me closer to deer season an ill see can i point you in the right direction

I wouldn't waste time in or near Guntersville. I'm looking else where because I've hunted around here. It's depressing. I go to Skyline and Bankhead and once in a while lucky to hunt on my buddys club in Madison county.

Thanks for the responses. Doesn't sound super promising but I'm coming from Texas where the closest public land is three hours away so anything is better than that.

Its there ill see can i find it for you later, all i can say is you are trading a target rich environment for basically no targets at all. I mean we got some deer in decent numbers an scarcley few turkeys just no land to really huntem on publically. Now dont let this mess with you too bad i spent quiet awhile in texas and i can honestly say your comin to gods country no doubt and it aint the whole state its really just marshall co. We have some of the finest public land in the nation just not like rock throwin distance or nothin. Skyline is bout 45min from gville an it has lots of deer and turkey. And to be honest id just save my money when i got here an get in a club orrrrrr, youll have to travel anyways just wma hunt. Ive hunted all over south texas and east texas basically looks like here just a little on the swampy side and minus slingin corn all over the place. Bama sounds frustratin and it is but when you can kill here... You can kill anywhere. FACT! ILL see can i find that map for you

You're going to be sorely disappointed. I'd recommend buying some new fishing poles.

I guess I should have started by saying I'm from ga and grew up hunting with family in Alabama. Only been in Texas for the last three years and by Texas I mean west Texas desert with no whitetails and a week long muley season so I'm actually looking forward to getting back to hunting in Alabama.

In the Guntersville area there may not be much difference other than green instead of cactus.

Good luck with your move, welcome (early) to Guntersville - a nice town - and good luck with your hunting search.

nope, no ducks in alabama, especially guntersville. Better try Mississippi for waterfowl.

Skyline has plenty of deer and hunters but we'll worth hunting.
