Since sunflower seeds sold as bird food will germinate well and are so cheap, I thought about trying to mix some in with my soybeans to help the beans get established. Rather than deer nipping off every young soybean, nipping 50% soybeans and 50% sunflowers might slow the browsing down a little to give the beans time to get established. I'd never expect (or want) the sunflowers to develop and wouldn't have a problem spraying them after a few weeks when going after weeds. Has anyone tried anything like this before? Hope it makes sense.

I plant the bird seed and it grows well, but i'm doing it for dove. Not sure if it would help or draw more deer to your plot.

I included them last year in about 2 acres of Peas and Sun Hemp and they never made it past a couple of inches. Pretty much the minute they developed leaves they were gone.Don't know how much pressure they would take off the beans since they will gone so fast if ya have a good deer population.I have 2 AC of them this year but they are e-fenced and for doves.
