Finally got my posts in the ground for 3 protein feeders and got them installed.
What are you guys who use them feeding in them, brand etc? What months do they get used the most? Worth it to start using them now , or wait closer to fall?

Now until fall, is the time to feed protein. I am feeding record rack pellets, because that is what I can get locally.

my house trough is 30"X10', roof is 12'wide and 16'front to back with 4X8 side panels of plywood. As well covered as I could figger.

I'm feeding the Co-Op brand of 16% protein. My deer are hammering that feed. I'm getting between 60 to 100 pics per night at the feeders. I'm feeding around 1050 pounds of feed every two weeks out of 3 boss buck feeders.

Dangit. At that rate I may have to just do one feeder.

Maybe this would be a better choice since it can be regulated?

It's starting to get expensive for sure. I'm not feeding 1050 pounds per feeder every two weeks just so that is understood. I'm feeding that amount per 3 feeders combined. I'm hoping since I have planted summer plots recently the utilization will slack off some. If not I'll keep feeding them. The Co-Op protein is not much more expensive than a bag of corn. I think I'm paying around $9 per bag if not mistaken. Right now the wife is on board with feeding the deer because she likes seeing the pictures. She's buying the feed for them for now smile

Buck booster pellets
Five different feeders. Activity at them ranges from 150lb/week for least active site up to 450lb/week of feed at the most active feeder. Started feeding middle of February.

I heard my debit card holler aw hell naw when I read that. lol

I think Im going to start with the most centrally located feeder and go from there to see how much the usage and cost ends up being.

MaxRax 17. We have been feeding since April and will feed until Mid September to early October. They are eating eating about 300lbs per week per feeder now. Time to buy another ton but I have to find time to get up there and feed them.

How much $$ per inch of B&C score do y'all expect to spend? Seems like it would be $100

I personally don't have any expectations. Everything I've read about supplemental feeding isn't necessarily going to translate into more antler growth. My goal and expectation is to provide the deer I hunt with an additional source of protein other than my summer plots. I would like my deer to be as healthy as possible 365 days per year. In return, I hope to see bigger bucks as a result of a healthy deer herd.

healthier deer over time translates into more inches.

Yep. I quit trough feeding 3-4 years ago and wish that I had not. Started back
this season. Of course I'm looking at 25 acres of soybeans now that are doing well so I may back off the trough feeding for the remainder of summer at the end of this month.

I'd rather spend my time and money on a big soybean field like that. I guess you can do both, but planting seems like more fun.

They are both fun, you're right. The troughs are good for pictures and help keep pressure down on soybeans while they get established. But yes, I love row cropping beans and corn, working the fields etc.
