Anybody know anything about this club? I hunted up there in the late 70's early 80's with my dad when it was a dog club. We were looking at a mini farm yesterday in that area and rode right by the old trailer/club house and skinning shed and man,it brought back some memories. Haven't been up there in probably a decade and it was wild to see places we used to hunt are all houses now. We killed some great deer up there back in the day.

I've tracked a few deer right around in there and the deer population is kinda just so-so for the most part......BUT......I have seen a couple nice ones come from that general area......... I believe one of the deer I tracked was right about where you're talking about. Does it have a powerline running through it when you first go in??

Yes. And a gas line a little further up.

Yeah, that's probably the same place then.......I wouldnt expect high deer populations but like I was saying......I have seen a couple nice deer come from that area....Not that particular property but in the general area.....That could just about be said about anywhere around here though.

I hunted in this club with my dad for a few years about the same time frame. IIRC Ken Owen, (Wetumpka State Farm agent) was over the club back then. Funny the stuff you can remember or dredge up from the depths of your memory as a kid, but can't remember 3 freaking things to get at Walmart. rofl

Hey man! I was going over some old post and this popped up. I was in this club with Ken (Rock Jumper) Owen, Roy (Catfish) Knox (deceased) , a preacher named "Turkey Feather," Bill Hand (who had the baddest old style Bronco I'd ever seen), and many others. Now that I think about it, Ken had a Bronco as well. Brown with white top. I wish I could remember the huntmaster back then. A younger guy with longer hair and beard who was tight with Ken (younger being relative. I was in college and he was prob in his late 30s but Ken and Co. were in their 50's ect. ) and buddy, he knew where to turn the dogs loose to jump deer. Those were some good times. The trailer is still there but I don't know if the club is still active. A ton of homes now on Jug Factory and surrounding roads. There used to be zero homes between Redland Road and up Jug Factory to Hwy. 14 from that club.

Brings back memories of dog hunting for me in the mid 70's-mid 80's with BIG Swamp hunting Club based in Society Hill, Ala. "Huntmaster"....we had one!! He was somewhat of a Jerk....would line everybody up and do a head count and take up "Guest $$" which was $5.00!! The "Ring Leaders" were BIG Land Owners/Farmers. Land Owners probably totaled 60,000 acres in Macon/Russel Counties. Membership Dues ($150) were used to lease Timberland that Bordered them so as to Try and keep Poachers off there land. Land leased for about 50 cents an acre back then. During the Holidays We might have 75 Standers and 12 "DogMen" with there Hounds. I have many times stopped Counting shots at 100....especially during the "Doe Days". When We would hunt one of the Landowners' "Honey Holes".....I have seen as many as 30 Bucks brought in to the Skinning Shed of all sizes....Spikes to 12 Pointers!! I?t was an amazing time when Soybeans were planted EVERYWHERE down there!! Getting in some of those spots mean't lifted trucks and as TALL of a Tire as would Fit!! Some of those Farmers were Excellent Mechanics and would Weld the Spider Gears in the Differentials so as to make Non-Slip Gearing....put Headers and Glass-Packs on them. It would sound like a Drag Strip when they would hit those long Swamp y sections of Log Roads-----4 wheel low.....2nd gear and Pedal to the Floor!!! F250 "HighBoys" stayed together the Best under those Conditions. F150's and C-10's broke a many of a universal joint doing such.
