I've posted this before. It happened on Veterans Day last year, but its appropriate for today.

Today I was blessed with an opportunity unlike anything I've ever experienced before.

I was standing in front of a VFW Memorial on the Jackson Co. Courthouse Square with my 6yo son. We were just standing and looking at the names carved in those stones. I was doing my best to explain to him what those names meant, when a man walked up beside us. I honestly believe that God sent him our way. He was wearing a Vietnam Veterans hat with Navy pins.

He spoke to us and asked how we were doing. I said " we are fine, sir. I was just explaining to my son what these names mean."

He grinned and said, " son these names mean that you are a very special boy. They mean that some men thought you were so special that they gave all they had so you can have freedom. Do you know what that means? They died to protect you and your life. They sacrificed all they had, and thier family sacrificed, so that you have freedom and safety. I think you are a very special boy and I'd like to salute you."

Well, I'd be telling a lie if i said I didn't tear up pretty bad listing to this man talk. I shook his hand and thanked him for his service and for speaking to my son.

While I'm here, I'd like to thank all our veterans for your service to this great country and for fighting for the freedom we, too often, take for granted. Thank you for keeping my kids safe and defending my family from the evil that hates us. Thank you.

I swear I have heard that before. Good stuff bro, hope you boy takes it to heart. The luxuries we all enjoy were paid for with a heavy price. Time makes it easy for us to forget but the greatest price was paid in some shithole foreign place.

That's a moment in time that will never escape your memory. Anyone that I know would have been honored to be there where you and your son were in that very moment.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Bump.

I think about this every year on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Thanks to all you vets who sacrificed so much of your life to defend this nation.

Y'all may get tired of seeing this post pop back up, but I always think of this during Memorial Day and Veterans Day weekends.

It's already been said, but thanks to all that have or are serving our country and condolences to those who have lost loved ones during service.

Thank you for posting this again. I remember it from before and it still chokes me up. Post it any time you feel like it.
