Heard on radio this morning that he was released but was taken back to the hospital almost immediately after returning home.

True. Mrs. Stallings took him to the hospital. This says he's lost some vision in his right eye, too.

Hate to hear it. He's a good man and always was gracious.

Truly hate to hear it. Stallings was always classy. Probably the best role model coach Alabama has ever had.

I concur. He was the last of the "old school" coaches that Bama had. Won't make 'em like that anymore.

Tough to hear this. He actually was in Montgomery last week when it happened. Prayers for a great coach and an even better man.

Unless you were a ref that made a call he didn't like. In 40 years of watching college football, I've never seen anyone give refs hell like he did.

Off the field however he is a great man that I admire even with my orange and blue glasses on.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

This. I knew a referee that said the standing joke when they drew a Bama game was "let's go take our cussing".

He's a mighty fine man and his coaching was outstanding. I pray that he fully recovers. I saw him give out some cussings when I took my young son to a game vs Bowling Green in Tuscaloosa about 1990 or so. We were about 3 rows up right behind him when he got wound up smile

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I met him numerous times when I worked at Hanna Steel in Northport back when he was coaching here at Bama. Pete Hanna used to have him come speak to us at our safety meetings. He is what I call a man's man. Reminded me a lot of my late Paw Paw. Pete Hanna on the other hand is a low life lying two faced son of a bitch. If I ever see that bastard again, I'll tell him that to his face.

I know he didn't die, but he recited this poem, from memory, at an FCA event in Tupelo last month...

I knelt there at the headstone
of one I love and cried.
Name, with dates of birth and death
were perfectly inscribed.

I pondered these two dates
and how little they both mean
when compared to the tiny dash
that lies there in between.

The dash serves as an emblem
of our time here on the earth,
and although small, it stands for all
our years of life, and worth.

And our worth will be determined
by how we live each day.
We can fill our dash with goodness,
or waste our life away.

To ourselves, as well as others,
lets be honest, kind and true,
and every day, live the way
we know God wants us to.

May we look for opportunities
to do a worthy deed,
and reach out with compassion
to those who are in need.

For If our hearts are full of love
throughout our journey here,
well be loved by all who knew us
and our memory theyll hold dear.

And when we die, these memories
will bring grateful, loving tears,
to all whose lives were touched
by the dash between our years.

Here's one thing I really liked about Stallings. If you were in a group talking with him, be it 3-4-5 people or a press conference or something, if he didn't like a question or thought you'd said something sideways he would let you know in a firm but polite fashion. He didn't dress you down in front of anyone else to make the point that he was the coach or a big man or could say whatever and you could-would get your comeuppance in an insulting manner.

Instead, he would answer or just say something like "Aw, I'm not going to talk about that now." and move on.

When he got you in a one-on-one, though, he might blister your ears or ask WTH were you asking about something. He did it personally instead of insulting or being a jackass, which IMO is what gentlemen do. It doesn't mean you're afraid to stand up for yourself or will let things slide. It just means you handle it in a more polite, professional way between the two of you.

Never forget when Bebes and that thug basketball player from Michigan (chris something) got into it on set at espn. Bebes let him have it good.
