I have 2 very old 410 pumps with full choke. May have to look into this TSS stuff and see how they shoot in them.

Seriously the best 100$ I've ever spent. Couldn't believe the patterns.
The older full choked guns are way better than something produced in the last 10 years. They are constricted more than today's full choke .410's for some reason.

Because ridgestalker's gun shoots so good, I have bought or found for others about a half dozen of the same model and every one of them patterned thus far has been a no doubt 40 yard gun with Hal's load and either 9's or 9.5's. Some of them could prolly kill one much further. Pretty much all of them have been bought for $100. Stony paid a little more I think but he was ready and didnt want to exercise any patience. Lol!

I have very little patience when I find something I want. Mine shoots great too, I just haven't taken it in the woods yet. It got a pretty paint job and will be getting a FF3 soon. Maybe we can get together next year and kill a double with them.

I'm following this. I've got an oldie I haven't shot in years. Foldemup gave me a few shells to pattern, but I never took the time. I'd like to atleast check one off the list with the four hunnert and ten.

Jug, you have any experience with a Stevens like this one?

Seems to me that the old Savage/Stevens are the tightest choked and best shooting guns CD. You should have a winner. Surprisingly the 2 worst guns I've seen were an old tobacco leaf Iver Johnson and an old Model 37 Winchester. Neither of them shot it well at all.

Thanks Brent. That one is a 940A and I've owned it my entire life. I'm interested in seeing what she'll do. CD.

I just dug my Rossi 410 3" with modified barrel out. Used to shoot cottonmouths with it. Got some 13/16 loads made. It may not shoot worth a piss but we'll see.

The old H&R topper single shots are pretty good. I have been throwing decent numbers.

Only one way to find out for sure!

If by some strange chance it doesn't do good, it is pretty easy to find the ones like we all have for pretty cheap. Ours is made by CBC out of Brazil but imported by various people. Might be listed as a model 151. Might be imported by K-mart, FIE, Sears, etc. They are all the same though. They have a 26" full choked barrel all with the exact same engraving, flat forearm, and the barrel release is in front of the trigger guard. I haven't seen one of them yet that isn't a no doubt 40 yard gun with 9's or 9.5's with most being capable even further out. I wouldn't be a bit scared to shoot one at 45 yards with mine.

And that flat forearm makes it a perfect turkey gun. Every one I've seen has got a good trigger on it too

I meant to mention that part too. The difference in the trigger on that little jewel versus an H&R, Rossi, etc. is night and day. I'm gonna try to gather up another or two over time for "parts." The only real knock I can find on them is the plastic piece on the front of the forearm at the hinge. Mine is cracked and I'm betting that is common. I wouldn't take $500 for the barrel off of mine though. It hits perfect for the way I like to aim and throws beautiful patterns.

Anyone want to trade tss 8's for some 9's or 10's and components I'll need to load about 10 .410 loads?

I wonder what the maxium range is as far as energy needed to kill one with 9.5? I'm not even sure what they leave the muzzel at.

Depends on pellet count per oz, but 60+ easy

Hal told me the range one was killed with 10s. He didn't wanna say it so I won't either, but it was pretty far.

Everything I thought about tss when I started using it 10 years ago was wrong. I thought Hal's first 2 oz load at 1100 fps was too slow, so I put it in a 3.5" hull and sped it up to 1250. It was a waste of time and money.

I thought 9s were too small and I needed 8s to get good penetration. I was wrong; the 9s have plenty and the increased pattern density probably makes it better on even a longer shot. And now info is coming in that the 10s still have plenty of penetration.

You young guys with steady hands and good eyes may want those high numbers in the 10 ring, but I want a wider killing pattern so that I never again have that sick feeling after missing a turkey.
