What some folks refer to as simply "jack" could be jack crevalle...they'll flat tear up some tackle, but even cats don't like 'em to eat! Amberjack, on the other hand, is a fine eating fish!

^^^^^^ This all day. AJ is one of the best eating fish in the Gulf.

Not to derail, but I've never understood the craving for Amberjack. Sure, they fight hard and have plenty of white meat, but there's a lot better eating in the gulf.

Fresh swordfish, mahi-mahi, cobia, trigger, scamp, wahoo are all higher on my list than amberjack.
