Heads up if you plan on driving thru Brantley. I got some certified mail today and it was a speeding ticket with a pic of my truck that said I was doing 40 in a 25 . Fist ticket in 14 years.it was a good run.

Wasn't there a ruling in the last few years in Montgomery that basically said traffic camera citations were unenforceable? I thought I remembered reading about it here. Would the same apply to automated speed trap cameras?

I traveled thru Illinois last week and they had cameras at work zones. $375 MINIMUM fine.

In Tuscaloosa it is with the red-light cameras. I got one 2 years ago and sent them 20 bucks but didn't sign it or anything and never heard another thing about it.

The town of Brantley would have had the State Legislature pass a bill to allow them to enforce civil law and they would have to pass an ordinance making speeding a civil violation. If these two things weren't done, then it is absolutely not an enforceable "ticket". If they were done, then the legality of it is yet to be decided. You can ignore it and risk them being valid at some point and you getting stuck with penalties or you can pay it with the hopes of getting it back from Brantley when they are found illegal. I'd pay it to keep them off my back and keep the receipt. My personal opinion, which is the same as Red Light Cameras, is that they are crap and just a way for a private company to make money after greasing the right palms to cities that are doing an end run around Alabama Criminal Law. BTW, Several cities in Alabama are doing the Red Light cameras but this is the first one I've heard of doing the speed camera tickets. Those things cause all kinds of issues in other states. I hope this gets shut down before they become commonplace here.

Don't know where Brantley is but this gives me a good reason to NEVER go there. I used to run I-81 going to Virginia all the time. A freaking deputy sheriff stopped me and wrote me a ticket in Wytheville, a notorious speed trap it turned out. I used to stop there, gas up, eat etc. I asked the deputy what the county was doing on the interstate doing trooper work. "We got a grant," he said. I told him and the clerk I would never again spend one red dime in their community and I haven't. Freak em. Municipal government has got to be all about the money I'm afraid.

If you ever drive through Brantley you'd probably feel so sorry for them you'd just send them some money. That is a pitiful little town.

wife got one in the mail today from Brantley too. You can go online and type in the number on the letter and your tag number and actually watch the video it took. It was comical. Luckily we know a guy and got it handled this afternoon. I ain't giving Brantley nothing, much less $110.
