It's sad when a walk-on gets more snaps than the 4-star redshirt QB that's on scholarship. Not surprised through, GusBus has a hard time developing and recognizing talent....Better home Stidham works out

There have been a bunch of walk-ons that ended up beating out 4 stars at QB in college. Lot of these so-called HS 4 star QBs are great athletes and put up huge numbers in HS because they are so athletic and ran simple offensive schemes. When you get to the D1 level, playing QB is more mental than it is athletic. Recognizing what you are looking at, checking out of bad situations, making good decisions, protecting the football, being a leader and being smart enough to run offensive schemes that are infinitely more complex than HS all help to weed out the chaff. Sometimes coaches cannot get past the "star" rating on a kid to recognize what they have in a lesser acclaimed player sitting on their bench. The second pick this year in the NFL draft is a prime example. Trubisky (sp) only got to play one year, played behind a 4 star that performed at an average level for 3 years and never even got a look from the NFL. Trubisky rode the pine until he got his chance last year and look where he is now. Brew Brees was told he was too small and only had 2 college offers. He wasnt a 4 star and he's done pretty well. Gus has proven he cant recognize or develop talent. Chip Lindsey, his new OC can develop a QB and game plan to his strengths or weaknesses. Lindsey and Stidham will manage to save Gus for at least another year.

Not to derail but these recruiting star talent evaluators aren't always right.Two guys who played in mississippi come to mind from football powerhouses southern miss&ms.valley state.Brett Farve&Jerry Rice they were pretty decent players.

Evaluators are just as often wrong as much as they get it right. Seriously, they are probably 60% correct. Here's some trivia: Farve was actually recruited as a safety at USM. He played QB in HS but his dad was the coach and they ran exclusively, like he only threw 2-3 passes a game, and played safety. Wasnt fully decided which side he would play on when he signed. USM Summer practice, bad pass and Farve was deep in coverage. Picked the ball up off the ground and casually threw it 65yds back the the center. He moved to the other side of the ball and the rest is history.

Why would a HS QB even consider Auburn as long as Gus is there?? No history of developing a QB and a strong history of going after JUCO's to be the starter. Now, a JUCO QB should try Auburn if they have been previously well coached.

I was afraid that was going to happen. Woody will make someone a great qb. He will be a household name in a few years. Hate we let him get away.
