I would only consider one that is registered with the BSS. Boykins have become very popular with suburban soccer moms and since they've become AKC recognized, I fear they'll become the next Cocker Spaniel. A once great hunting breed that is now bred to be house dogs.

Joe Tucker. His male Homeless is my dog Macks dad.

Pretty cool dog, there was a news story about him on the internet a while back but I can't find it. He'd get all the fish out of the cooler, clean up all the shells in a bucket after a hunt. He would go open a cooler and bring you a beer based on brand name

Great little dogs. Had one years ago duck hunted a little with. They just cant stand the cold like a lab. Had to carry him out one night after his eyes had glazed over. Had him wrapped in a goose down jacket. Thankfully he lived.

He has a litter right now but not sure if any are left. Extremely nice guy who was very helpful when I was getting my boykin last summer.

I've toyed with getting one myself for my next dog.....just about narrowed it down to a Boykin or a Brittany. Out of curiosity, roughly how much should one expect to pay for a Boykin? Not looking for a champion trial dog or anything, just a family pet/hunting buddy?

As a general rule most breeders I found with health certifications on the parents and BSS registered were charging $1500 and some were a little more and some a little less.

I think we paid $1,000 in 2007, seems like we got a discount when my buddy and I each bought one, both BSS registered.

Not shocked $1500 is going rate now.

I remember finding it interesting that a selling point on the breed is how many generations removed from being from South Carolina they are. Don't know why that stuck with me, but it did.

Another good one to consider is a Field Bred English Cocker; mine came out of Kinchafoonee Kennels in Albany, one of the top FBEC breeders around:

Great companions, tremendous drive; determined hunters. Abbey is about 33lbs:

I assume she is fixed, but if not we could probably solve your puppy problem the old fashioned way. I know one volunteer

We paid $2500 for our male but he is the one of the most titled If not the most titled Boykins in history. We just got on the list for a very well bred female for $1500. You can buy them a lot cheaper but a well bred one brings top money. Rick Anderson at shadow bend kennels does have a litter but no females left. His females sold for $2000. Don't know what the males go for.
