parts of central Texas have fairly good populations of black phase deer.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Melanistic is the correct wording, and I doubt that many are killed in any year. They are found on private landholdings near Austin for the most part and are protected by the individual landowners.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I seen a mount of one for sale at Prattville Pickers over by your house Sunday..They used red eyes in the mount.Looked freaky as hell. I just saw that deer last month. It was freaky lookin.

Yea, I go in Pickers some. Some neat antique stuff.
As I said, I've seen a few articles about them but in person is different. No white throat patch, no white around eyes, and no white inside ears. Just all black. Strange and any oddity like that in wildlife intrigues me. Yea I could go broke in that place with all the old stuff in there.
