was just coming here to get the rule clarification on that...at what point can the runner/batter not go back to touch the plate? The ump had not "put the ball back in play". He handed the catcher a ball and she went and tagged the runner as she was coming back to the plate. She hadn't made it to the dugout yet.

She was way out of the base-runner line, so that alone should be enough.

Makes me sick to see being a Bammer.

Yeah, I don't understand it. Like when there is a dropped 3rd strike...batter can be headed for dugout on 3rd base side and then realize/take off to 1st. He's "way out of the baseline" too? Also, the ump called the ua girl out after giving the catcher a new ball and she ran to tag her? Screwed up.

But, she coulda avoided all that by doing the little thing...

Can't give you the exact wording but it has the wording "conceded the play" or something like that in it. Once the runner has conceded the end of the play they can't go back.

A lot of room for subjectivity in there as you can figure.

The call could go either way. The ball wasn't in play, so she did have a right to go back and touch home plate but like previously stated, that should be a given to touch home plate. I believe once the ball is replaced an appeal can be made. I think they can celebrate after she touches, not as she touches or in this case comes to the plate. Regardless lesson was learned.

There's another version I saw last night where you can see the umpire telling the catcher something as he's handing her the ball. They state he gave the ball to the pitcher but in fact gave the ball to the catcher and she appealed.

Abandoning effort is the phrase ya'll are looking for. The out of baseline only applies when a play is being made like a rundown.

On a home run the umpire watches to make sure the runner touches home. If the runner touches home, doesn't the umpire point to the plate to indicate to the scorer to count the run? And if the runner doesn't touch home plate he does nothing, indicating the play isn't over? Just asking because I am not sure on that rule.

You do point to indicate run scored.You also signal press box and indicate number of run(or runs) scored.

I wonder what the coach was arguing about? He was pointing to left field like he was showing him where the ball went over the fence. I can't think of anything he could be arguing.

If you notice a female assistant coach grabs her and tells her to go touch the plate. All I can think happened is the Bama asst coach noticed the umpire didn't plate the run so she told her to go back and touch it. I think the male coach was making a futile effort to convince the umpire that since it was a HR it didn't matter. Have to touch the plate.

Coachs argue to "protect the team-player" Truth is 90% of them let emotion overrule when they know the rule was applied correctly and when female athletes are involved make that percentage 100%. Not to invoke title 9 hatred but if coach does not argue or "do something" it makes recruiting harder and what's a programs lifeblood?

The ball was handed to the catcher, who then went and tagged the runner. The coach was letting him know that THAT ball wasn't in play, therefore the tag was not applicable. If the runner had conceded the play, why did the ump wait till the catcher tagged her...with a ball he handed her...to call her out? Just arguing for arguments sake...

I went to Ole Miss this past weekend and watched the double header Saturday , if you look at the two teams it is really amazing the difference in the players. Alabama has girls out of shape and very over weight looking versus Ole Miss players who are lean and in great playing shape . I think Murphy needs to step up and change the way he recruits , he didn't recruit Ashlee Swindle ( Auburn pitcher ) who was the player of the year last year in Alabama and the Country or her other two teammates of which one is at Auburn and the other a starter at Ole Miss as a freshmen . How does that happen ...i could see it if there were character issues etc but this girl has dominated the competition since 9th grade .
