Who have been quiet and peaceful for the 6 or so years since I bought this place, aren't so quiet and peaceful this afternoon.

About an hour ago, the neighbors son came up to my porch and was talking to my SIL. I thought nothing of it until 3 sherriff deputy cars came flying up the road and stopped at my drive. The boy met them, talked a few moments and then they all headed to their house. Their house is on a couple of acres on the back side of my place. There was soon another deputy car and an ambulance flying up the drive. It's mostly done and over now but I think one of the deputys is still there. I'm not sure what happened but I'm kinda thinking maybe domestic violence, although I'da never thunk it before today.

Well crap, so much for a quiet and peaceful neighborhood.

My advice, don't ask and don't get involved. If someone comes running to your house wanting help, call 9-11. If by chance you do feel compelled to get involved, keep your head on a swivel. DV situations can turn from one way to another in an instant.

Yeah, good advice there. I wasn't intentionally in it in any way shape form or fashion. As a matter of fact, I let my SIL have it for not letting me know what was going on at my own house. I didn't have a clue that there was any kind of a situation until the deputies came up.

Hate to hear that. I think someone has declared war in the White Oak community. It's fairly common to hear someone shooting around here but the last 2 days have been something else. Yesterday someone a mile or so away was shooting a full auto weapon and letting it eat and someone else not too far off was shooting too. This afternoon someone different is ripping off what sounds like handgun rounds near the speed of light.

They get close with that fire fight, I'm gonna activate the guard.

If my neighbors' shooting bothers me, it's only because I'm busy and can't go join them!

Oh it doesn't bother me, I just have to make sure Georgia hasn't invaded. We need to build that wall.

Jawbone gave some great advice... stay OUT of it, sit on your porch and watch whatever you can see, and be alert for it to spill over onto your place.

Great people watching opportunity. I watched about a 20 person brawl from the front porch in the wee hours of the morning one time. Very entertaining

I really don't even care to watch. It's none of my business unless it comes to my property. That's why I was upset at my SIL. It had potential to overflow into my peace and quiet, and he didn't even bother to mention it to me. When it's right here, I'm on it. As long as they keep it on their own place, I couldn't care less what they do. I am a little disappointed about the situation though.

Definitely be careful. A couple in our church found out the hard way a few weeks ago. They took a battered young lady in and had been helping her, and then her hubby showed up. He shot both the husband & wife. Husband is/was a sheriff deputy too. He's in jail now but as much as we want to help I feel keeping your distance is a better strategy.

DV gets very ugly and confusing quickly.
Victims will do complete 180s and then turn aggressive.

What got my when I was interning at the county is that a lot of these folks just have a completed F'ed perception of reality and normal.

You really don't know your neighbors the way you think you do. I found that out years ago.

Yea I'd try and stay out of it all.My uncles girlfriend shot at him with a 270 one night when I was standing in the yard.They all tore out from up there and some of them came here.I called 911 and they ended up having to get the swat team put to go in and get her.A few of us ended up having to hide out in the yard with guns for a while late that night cause his girlfriends son threatened to come down here shooting people.I was minding my own damn business and got involved.

Larry I have had my fair share of terrible neighbors..From the north side my uncle dating that crazy old hag that shot at him to the south side having to fuss and fight with meth heads at all hours of the night.I grabbed a shed off a deer I had laying on top of my gun safe one night and chased one of them damn meth heads with it.Run his ass all the way back up in the house and if I coulda caught him I was gonna beat his eyeballs out with that deer shed..You can't catch a crackhead though..One of em had me shooting up in the woods one night cause he said there was people hiding in the woods.Damn boy had me walking the road at 2am shooting at imaginary people he swore he heard..Finally got rid of all that mess and all has been quiet down here since.

If you live out of the city limits, Put a rebel flag at your drive, start shooting all day and through the night. Theyll think you've gone crazy as hell and wont mess with you.
