Come on PCP you could've got closer for the pic! I was really close; optical illusion makes it look further. At least I got a phone signal in area I'm hunting this afternoon, though I see no reason for there to be a turkey anywhere on the section of land I'm hunting.

Don't you let a snake ruin a turkey hunt Mr Steve, they know how you are on the turkeys so they probably sent him out to run you away

My guide just told me that if I will sit beside a certain feeder all day tomorrow he is certain I will kill a turkey. I can tell he thinks I'm hardheaded and unreasonable because I don't wanna do that. Oh well, at least I didn't see more snakes.

I have finally killed a TX turkey. I went on a trip here in 2005 and ate tag soup. Hunted hard 2 days last week and never came close. This morning I got up early and set up down the hill from where I was Saturday. It was cold, but relatively still, and turkeys gobbled good. Most were roosted on the next ranch and every one of them flew down into their pasture. I think there were 3 longbeards in the flock and one of them had a deep gobble that sounded like an Eastern; bet he is old. I enjoyed talking to him, and he really loved my trumpet. I was thinking I might pull off the near impossible by getting him to leave his hens in the pasture and come to me, when I suddenly heard a turkey drumming right behind me. Then he gobbled 4 times in a row and was maybe 10' from me; that was worth the trip right there. I finally turned my head and didn't see him, so I got on my knees and spun around. If it had been the Coosa WMA he would have spotted me and flown off, but he hung around long enough to catch a load of #9 tss. Turned out to be a nice gobbler with a 10" beard. Gonna try for the old guy in the morning.

Nice double! Looks like a fun time and have a safe return. Did you do any good in Perry county this season?

Got my 3rd OK bird this morning. I spent about 3 hours trying to get 2 strutters away from a bunch of hens, and didn't have any luck with that. They gobbled good early, but eventually quit and followed the hens over a ridge. I moved a couple of times, and finally lost contact with them altogether. I sat under the shade of a cedar and called loud on my trumpet for a few minutes, and it was time to go meet my ride. I looked behind me before standing up and both strutters were about 40 yds behind me; slipped in without making a sound. One of them didn't survive the encounter.

Dang PCP, you've had a heck of a season. Good luck on the rest of your trip, and safe travels Thanks! Rest of the season ends today. I am set up in a blind on a 30 acre field in rain and 30 mph winds. But there were 2 gobblers right here all morning yesterday. They are probably doing the sensible thing and staying inside today. I think I'm gonna seek some kinda professional help when I get home. Anyone who would do this for a turkey must be crazy. I wonder if there is hope for a cure?

I just had the most unlucky hunt I think I ever had. I decided I'd had enough of the blind and packed it up at noon. About to start out when I saw a whole flock coming. I hunkered down beside the river and started calling. Eventually 2 strutters were in a race to get to me. I was just about to yelp and kill the front bird when a 3rd strutter running the field edge charged within 10' of me. He saw me and putted and ran back, upsetting all of them. The first 2 stopped and I still had perfect shot, but they were right together and I woulda killed both. They finally ran some more and one stopped. I had to get lower to avoid a limb, shot, and all the turkeys flew off. I had killed 18 without a miss, but that streak is over. And the last miss was in this same field. Think I better avoid it. They all flew across the river and I just heard one gobble. I'm gonna try to wade it. Hope you all have a better day than me.

Got a little bit of redemption, though a miss never goes away. I was able to wade the river though it came within an inch of running over into my Mucks. The turkey gobbled sporadically and finally he crossed the river back to the original side. I had about given up on him and was nearly back to the truck when he gobbled in the woods on the other side of a 40 acre corn field. I alternated with a Hatchet Creek Screaming Green and a Dixie Darling box and he picked up his gobbling. Then he got quiet and I spotted him standing in the field on the other side. He walked the road around the field and came right in. Nice way to end the season, one that I really enjoyed. Good luck to those still hunting hunting! I've put in almost 2 months of it.

Congrats PCP. Seems strange to not see the double barrel in your pic. Safe trip home. I had to pass on a couple of birds about 55 yds, so yesterday I decided to pull out the big gun. This was the first time I've used it in 2 years. I don't like the Holo sight; it's soon gonna be for sale.

Managed to get an Oklahoma double this afternoon. The turkey was gobbling at 2:30 and came right in. I got the turkey and carried him back to my chair and this mangy coyote cane running in sniffing around where the turkey died. The tss killed him instantly at 36 yards. Grr Great Job Steve! Congrats!!!!
