It's rather disconcerting.
We need to come up with a laser based missile defense system that will be a total game changer and make nuclear missiles obsolete. I'm sure we are working on that. As a matter of fact I think I saw a video of a ship based system.

As a matter of fact I think I saw a video of a ship based system. No. You need to hit them in space. Problems with ground based laser: What if it is cloudy that day. You have to hit the missile. The laser has to be powerful enough to instantly punch a hole through the missile. Otherwise it can be defeated by spinning the missile. Emitting smoke at the nosecone can reduce the effectiveness of lasers. We don't want the radioactive materials raining down over us from the atmosphere.
