Yesterday, my wife and I were headed home from Birmingham after enjoying a short vacation at UAB hospital. I was in my truck and my wife was in our van with my youngest son. We exited off of I-20/59 at exit 100 for gas. After gassing up we hit the interstate again heading to Tuscaloosa. When we got back on the interstate the right lane and middle lane had vehicles going under the speed limit. So, I got into the left hand(passing) lane with my wife behind me. I passed the slower vehicles and looked back in the rearview mirror, so that I could begin to merge over into the middle lane, to see some IDIOT behind her flashing his lights and swerving back and forth on her bumper. She could not move to the middle lane because it was occupied. She was panicking and afraid that the guy was gonna hit her because he was so close. I felt helpless. I slowed down as the middle lane cleared and he whipped around her. All I could do was blow my horn at him and point at him as he flew by. Once he got about 100 yards in front of me he was no longer in a hurry and got in the middle lane. I was furious to say the least. After that incident I can see how people get shot on the side of the interstate. Is gaining 100 yards on a few vehicles worth risking lives on the interstate? If I could have gotten his tag number could the LEO's have done anything to him?

At my stage in life, I would not hesitate to Initiate a PIT maneuver on somebody like that, even if it tore my vehicle up. I would just insist it was a pure accident, I would not explain anything to the police other than identifying myself and handing them documentation, and I would hire a lawyer to defend me. I've got nothing but time and good insurance.

And what if the guy was trying to get to the emergency room?

UAB was in the opposite direction. DCH(don't come here) is in tuscaloosa. Once he cleared us he slowed down a little and got in the middle lane. He just wanted to intimidate someone. The sad thing was that he had an alabama wildlife tag. He will try to intimidate the wrong person one day.

No, not unless they witnessed him driving in such a manner.

Booger, all my silly joking and big talk aside, I'm happy and thankful that you and your family are safe. Some folks become different animals when they get behind the wheel of a two ton missile.

As aggravating at those kind of people are, just gotta let it go. If he is retarded enough to do something that stupid, he's the type that will escalate the situation in a hurry. Those type of people aint worth getting shot at. Besides, someone with that attitude will one day gets what coming to them.

This type of behavior is why we pretty much try to avoid interstates while travelling at all costs. I would rather take a little extra time and see the old America at my own pace than fight it out on the interstates like some kind of Nascar race from hell where everyone is trying to go either 65 or 100 mph and trying to jockey for position.

If anyone ever wonders how people would behave in some kind of SHTF scenario, like a nuclear winter, Yellowstone volcano eruption, massive power grid failure, etc... Look no further than the way people behave during normal driving. If people are this bad when things are actually pretty good, just think how bad they will be when things go really bad.

This ^^^^

Sometimes I see people like this and I just take a deep breath and actually feel sorry for them, because they're in for a hard life. Graveyards and Prisons are full of people just like that.

I am not scared to put the bumper to someone. It's called bump drafting but most of the time when you do that they run out in the woods.

If he had been behind me I would have simply ignored him. My wife is a little high strung and once she went from scared to mad she wanted to break check him. I told to never do that! She could cause a major wreck. She said I just wanted him to find a ditch.
MAG, you know Waycross people be crazy don't ya? smile

This. I used to be that guy. Had a very sobering meeting on the side of the interstate in South Carolina. Never again.
