Got a tread puncture on about a 3 month old tire. Took it to tire shop to get it plugged and was told it was unrepairable because the puncture was to big. It wasn't big enough to see through, in fact I had a hard time finding it at first.

Ever heard of this? I think it was beer thirty and the guy working on it didn't get it the first try and said "oh well, time to go".

Do you have a picture?
Was the puncture near the sidewall?

I just went out to plug it myself and it's holding 48 psi from yesterday afternoon. I don't know what he pumped it up to initially but max inflation is supposed to be 44 psi. I sprayed it with soapy water and it leaks but it's a tiny leak.

I might put it back on the truck and run it for a couple days and see if the plug squishes out a bit and stops the leak. May sound goofy but it is a tiny leak. I just can't bear to throw away what is essentially a new tire. If it still leaks I guess I'll have to but I'm going to try it and see.

I have put a plug along side another plug that was barely leaking on a tire to save myself $150.00. Worked great until I sold the Bronco a couple of years later.

Just have it properly repaired from the inside. Pull through patch. Please don't just drive around on a tire you know is leaking. If your going to though, at least yell hold my beer and watch this, before you get in the truck.

Sounds like the tire guy just wanted to sell you a tire. Take it somewhere else and tell 'em to patch it.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I can understand that frustration.

I guess a couple things to consider
How much do you drive the truck? Highway?
Family ride in the truck?
Haul/tow a lot?

You would hate for something major to happen that could have been solved by a couple hundred dollars.

I would either put some Slime in it or a good patch inside the tire. Several years ago I had a hole in my sidewall on a dang near new tire. I put a plug in it and ran the tire till the whole set wore out.

I might be just lucky but I've plugged several over the years and never had one fell.I use that tire cement stuff on the plug every time though.

I don't claim to know much but I am almost certain tubes in passenger vehicle tires haven't been used in my lifetime.

not for a long time. If you get caught it's a hefty fine.

Yeah and you better hope they didn't miss lug nut day during their time at "tire college", turn your vehicle into a tripod. That's what Ron White said during one of his life lesson seminars.
