# 3 made it hard on me today, but I won in the end. I hit the ground running this morning to set up on the gobbler that has been giving me fits for the last couple of weeks. I got set up well before daylight, but no sounds from where I thought he should be. After what should have been fly down time one started gobbling about 3 or 4 hundred yards behind me. I moved back off the clear cut back to the top of the hill to zero in on him and I could tell he was near the property line. I moved a little closer and set up and while I was working him another bird started hammering about half way back to the front of the property. I worked the first bird for a while but he finally got lock jaw and after about 30 minutes the other one was still hammering every few minutes. I couldn't stand listening to the other one any longer so I took off to the other one. While I was moving he got quiet for a while but I had a good idea of where he was so when I got to the top of the second hill I sat down and listened for him again. I took about 10 minutes but he gobbled one time so I started towards him. I got to about where I was hoping he would be so I set up and started calling. He was close but unfortunately he was on the other side of a narrow marshy area that runs the whole length of the property. Every time I called he would cut me off but he was not coming across the marsh so I backed up the hill and started working parallel to him. When I got about half way to the road where I could cross the creek that feeds the marsh I stopped and called to him to try to get him working with me. Sure enough every time I called he was a little closer to me. I took off again and hit the road and crossed to his side. I looped around and got set up while he was still gobbling where he was the last time. I started calling and he started coming. I bet he was the happiest bird around thinking he had made that hen come all the way around the marsh just to come see him. I finally laid eyes on him at about 60 yards but he didn't give me a shot until he was about 35. Now here's the funny part. When I shot him I jumped up and in all the excitement I never noticed my right leg had gone to sleep on me, so when I took the first step my leg didn't hold. I went down did a shoulder roll bounced back up and hobbled peg leg style to him to step on his head. Wish I had had someone to video the whole hunt. He was my biggest bird yet. 19 pounds, 10 inch beard and 1 3/8 hooks.
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

Thanks guys. For my first year I've been pretty lucky. I guess you could say I have "the fever".
