I'll start with two I really like.
At the 19 exit in Satsuma on I-65 (just N of Mobile) there is a Chevron Station next to a huge Love's truck stop. Owned by some people from Louisiana I think.
They have REALLY good, BIG ribs. Rib plate with three ribs (meat 1" thick by 2" wide, and pulls easily off the bone) and two sides is just over $8 with tax. They have good red beans and rice, turnip greens, or mac and cheese (homemade) for sides. With a cornbread muffin or roll also. The ribs are not seasoned much, and the sauce they give is Sweet Baby Rays, but it's easier to season something up than to have it come too spicy to begin with.
Exit 114 on I-65 at Hwy 106 in Georgiana. Another Chevron station but has a BBQ stand in the corner of the parking lot. Kendall's BBQ. Good sandwiches and corn nuggets. All I've ever had there, but still good.
Exit 57 (Atmore, Holman Prison, and Casino exit), ANOTHER Chevron station (weird, yes I know) has good BBQ sandwiches and spicy chicken bites.
Hwy 5 N of Thomasville in Catherine. There's a gas station/juke joint/community gathering place called Roadhouse. Good cheeseburgers and BBQ sandwiches.
Last but not least, the only one that is only a restaurant but it's in Pine Hill, which is damn near the middle of nowhere (apologies to Todd1700 and some other member I can't recall.
Rooster's Roadhouse. Just south of the Hwy 10 and Hwy 5 crossroads. Had good steaks, hamburger steaks, burgers, all kinds of stuff there. It's close to our camp and I'm glad. Stopped in there one time with a tomato. JUST a tomato. Asked the cook (nice, older black lady) if she'd make me a couple sandwiches out of it. She made them on wheat bread, mustard on one side and mayo on the other, with salt and pepper. Wouldn't take a dime for it. Great people. Please try it if you're through there.

Barry's Bar-B-Q 85 Co Rd 527, Fyffe, AL It's not really IN Fyffe. It's about 237 miles down a back road or two once you leave civilization behind. When you get to his farm, you will pull down a long dirt driveway to the guys house. Well, it's actually back behind the house. Hard to beat it. reviews 4.8/5

Ate at Big Mike's Steakhouse in Thomasville a couple of weeks ago and I cook a good steak at my house, but I couldn't touch the ribeye I got from there.
Jim's BBQ is good. My parents lived about 5 miles down the road from there for years in the big city of Pletcher, Alabama.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The wife and I plan all trips to/through/around Atlanta with a trip to Gumbeaux's. We sometimes make a special trip just to eat. Fresh Fish Pontchartrain is some of the best stuff you will ever eat.

Robert, I agree with you 100% on Kendall's. Next time try a steak sandwich or chicken tender sandwich
Two awesome burgers around Pensacola are:
CJ's kitchen (corner of Pace and Garden St in Pensacola) Oval Office (Avalon Blvd at I-10 in Milton)
Both of these are handmade patties seasoned perfect. Oval Office also has fine curly fries

Used to be a place off I59 at the Greene track exit, on right hand side of the road down that had some of the best ribs I've ever had. Found it by accident coming back from Butler on a hunting trip, pulled off to gas up and decided to grab some lunch. Sho'nuff fine ribs. Some little fat kid and his dad came in after us and the kid sat at a table by himself, prob 7-8 yrs old and dad sat at another table opposite him. Thought it was strange til that lil'big feller dug into those ribs. By the time he was done BBQ sauce was everywhere but he sure loved them ribs. I don't know if the place is still there, it's been years since I was there.
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

Used to be a place on Alabama River at Dixie Landing that had some great catfish. Yep, they had some fine river catfish. Several floods damaged the building over time and it closed a few years ago. Building has now been completely removed.

My favorite out way place in those parts was cotton patch. It was off green track exit. Yup...great fried chicken and great catfish. Haven't eaten there in probably 20 years, though.

If you're ever up this way in Carrollton, Georgia, check out Brown Dog's Deli. Great food for sure.

Cousin Vinnie's in downtown Daphne is good.

Jim's BBQ is good. My parents lived about 5 miles down the road from there for years in the big city of Pletcher, Alabama.
Am I the only one that prefers Hog Heaven? Hog Heaven is good and it certainly qualifies as out of the way, but I prefer Jim's sauce a little more.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Hard to beat it. reviews 4.8/5 Dang good BBQ buffet in a little building behind the guys house. Only on Sand Mt.

Big Mike's has the best steak I have ever had!!

Joe's Pizza (in the bustling metropolis of Woodville AL) is some count. Is that the little place on 72? inquiring minds would like to know

Stopped at a "YellowHammers" gas station like place on 65, north of Mobile headed towards Montgomery a few weeks ago. Dont know if its cause I was starving to death, but they had some Dang Good chicken and mashed taters, roll. Yeah, it's on exit 69 at Hwy 113, Barnett's Crossroad exit. They have really good gravy biscuits, too.

I stopped in market by the bay today and got a shrimp po boy and some gumbo. It was pretty good and reasonable price. In Baldwin County:
Saracenos on CR 32 near Fairhope is about as good as it gets for good country type cooking.
Market By The Bay on Hwy 98 in Daphne is a fine little hole in the wall type place for seafood.

X2. Market by the bay is much more laid back and friendly than bozos though. Good food at both though. Speaking of out of the way places, Bozo's Grocery in Pascagoula, MS is pretty damn good.
