That blows my mind as well. I was on one yesterday that was double gobbling at everything in sight but had a little valley between us. Some guy came in on him from the adjoining property blowing owl and crow calls every breath. There is absolutely no way he didn't hear this bird tearing the woods up. Needless to say it shut the turkey right on up.

Not much gobblin this morning. But set up in a blind on a huge field and saw tons of turkey all morning. At 930 had 2 toms strutting following a group of hens. But the hens took them into the woods 60 yrds short of our blind. No dice. Taking myzx wife for a midday sit. They should be back this pm.

Saturday before last I heard one gobbling and started moving to him. Bird gobbled maybe 2 or 3 times on my way. Got to a pine ridge above him and was just about to send out a few soft yelps when a guy on the next ridge over lets loose on a box call just as loud and as fast as he can and he did not stop for at least 5 solid minutes. The turkey gobbled at him once after he started and then shut up. It wasn't 5 min later and I swear I heard him cracking limbs as he was leaving and 5 min after that I'm pretty sure I heard something hitting the bed of a truck. 5 min after that I heard the bird gobble pretty close to where he had been banging on the box call. I guess the guy ran out of time and had to be somewhere or something, I don't know. I'm not sure what amazes me more the fact that the guy didn't seem to understand that there was a gobbler about 100 yds from him in the bottom or that the bird actually went to him.

Actually, I just this very moment thought of another possibility. I never saw the bird, only heard him. He probably had a better angle with binoculars to see him. It's a fairly open bottom and everything was not leafed out yet. Maybe he saw it and it was a jake and so he just left? I don't know, that maybe makes more sense to me than anything?

I got on a bird that was gobbling a little on the roost. A coyote trotted by me headed in the direction of the turkey. A 2nd coyote came by but he didn't make it. The #7 Heavyweight to the face dropped it dead as a hammer.
