A new rifle is in the works. Made in Germany but looks a lot like the AR.

I will pose a few thoughts on this.
Mil-spec, as pertains to trigger groups for ARs, means just that. It is within the specifications of the design of the weapon which was build to be fielded in war. Most triggers are a bit heavy, fairly gritty and have quite a but of over-travel. You'll note that it often takes a bit of effort to actually fire the weapon with a long, 5-7# trigger. This was done so soldiers didn't shoot each other while running around in the jungle, slipping through the mud, with bullets wizzing around them. You'll find, in fact, that most all purpose built military small arms have relatively heavy, long and gritty triggers. AKs, FALs, M1s, 1911s and most self-defense pistols also share these traits from the factory.

Gary not to down on you,but i can remember reading complaints on service 1911's from the 1950s.Milspec don't mean custom shop just means "Hey theres a WAR on so we got this POS to the Front as fast as we could." Makers know parts are going to be replaced.
Only hits count.

LOL When I qualified in basic with the M-16 you had to hit 30 out of 40 targets at various ranges out to 300. I hit 35 and the Drill Sargent wanted to know why I didn't hit them all. I told him I would have if that thing didn't have such a s****y trigger. One of two times I saw him smile!

That way any part can be dropped in with little to no worry of it not fitting and working. Sure, you do have tolerance stacking which on the rare occasion will cause parts to not work together, but you can usually swap one or both and all is well again.

When I think "Mil-Spec" I think interchangeable or standardized parts and try to buy better than "Mil-Spec" in the sense of not wanting actually issued parts. When I think of what Uncle Sam issued I think low bidder POS. They could have better triggers, if you are issued one like that and can't change it just remember one thing... your expendable. Enjoy your gritty trigger and have a nice day.

Milspec is all about being interchangeable within the parameters set. With the rise in popularity of AR's some shady businessmen realized they could hype up their basic parts and fool people into thinking they were getting a great part because its Milspec.

I shot plenty of "Milspec" M-16's and I would take my Windham Weaponry over any rifle that the military put in my hands.

The M16's we carried in the 80's were Vietnam era weapons and the 1911 were older than that but as milspec as they were they went bang every time we pulled the trigger. If they were kept clean there weren't many jambs at all from either one
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be
