Anybody ever hunted Giles Island? I'm going in early October....just curious about anyone's experience there

Be picky...take 3 thermacells...there be monsters there...

See if you can get on some persimmons or honey locust trees. In that area, a hot honey locust is a buck magnet. Lots of deer and some really nice ones. I've never hunted Giles itself but have hunted just north and south of it. Good luck, it's a nice place.

I wouldn't bother with Giles Island. See if you can find a lease in Winston County.

I used to go on a 6 day hunt at Willow Point every year the week before Christmas. The rut is a circus on the river.
What the poster said about honey locusts is true. They hit them hard. Cockleburs also (just don't wear fleece)! Wild pecans also.

Yea first I have looked into it also. Very nice place.

Bought a turkey hunt in a silent Auction. Took my Dad, we both killed a bird the first afternoon. No luck the next two days. Saw a lot of deer- lodge is awesome. Lot of water, and two thermacells each would not have been enough to control the skeeters, much less the one each we did have.

We went several years ago in October and I shot and missed the biggest deer I've ever seen. It's about a 50/50 in my opinion to kill one there with a bow. Out of my group of three people I was the only one to release an arrow and the others saw good bucks just couldn't make it happen. I think there was 12 in camp and only two bucks were killed. That place though has the finest land I ever seen and some of the best hospitality and nicest people there. They work hard and treat you right

Everything I've read and saw on it is very nice. I would love to see it in person. Just ain't no deer worth that kind of money to me. But that's just me.

Well?? How was it?

The hunting was slow the week we went. Guide said he had never seen it like this year because the persimmons and oaks both let them down and this is what they key on in early bow season. There were good bucks seen but not in bow range. I was disappointed because of high expectations but I saw enough to know I would like to go back. It's a nice place and they've got the deer and big ones.....but it's still hunting

btw......there were two bucks filmed by other hunters' guides while I was there that were 150+.......they were just at 100+yards
