Which method are you using on your yote sets?

Trying to figure out which way to go. I've made sets with each method now but not sure if one is gonna hold up to weather better than the others.

I started out using screen wire but changed over to chem wipes and liking it much better! May also end up using wax paper! I tried the polyfill and personally didn't like it!

I have used the wax paper and polyfill and neither will work in the sand of Crenshaw county when it rains. I going to try the peat moss after turkey season.

I haven't been too happy with peat moss. It doesn't pack like clay or anything for sure but once everything gets saturated it still seems to get packed under the pan more than I like. I'm gonna play around with the polyfil some more. I like the fact that I can put it under the pans of these 650's before I even go to the woods and it be set and ready.

Peat moss 100%!!! The best way I have found is to go ahead and bed your trap solid, put peat moss over the pan and smooth over filling in the inside of the jaws leaving the pan exposed. Pack good around the pan then (with sifter) cover with native dirt from the area.

Ditto for me. For yotes, I pack/bed the trap real good. I dont want any movement.

Polydill under the pan. Peat moss, and sand mixed 50/50.

If your expecting rain polyfil under the pan then sift a thin layer of peat/sand mix over and pack it in well.

There isn't a perfect method! Try to keep your sets on location but in locations that won't collect run off.

A heavy rain is going to foul any set but bedding good and having everything already packed in tight inside the jaws will keep sets working through everything but a downpour.

North40R, if you don't mind sharing with us new to this.... what do you do after a downpour? Do you reset next day or what have you found to be best?

Yes, after a downpour you need to reset. It's tough and very messy but what part of trapping isn't....

Having a bucket of dry dirt and a bucket of peat/sand mix is a must. You can't bed traps in mud!
