Looking for a gunsmith in northeast Alabama to refinish an old gun for me. Want it as close to factory finish as available. Any recommendations.

You could try WW guns in Danville.

Browning sweet sixteen and factory finish. The bluing is wore and the forearm has been replaced. I want it as close to factory new as I can get.

The only place I would trust to do that would be APW. You'd have to ship it to them but it would be worth it. They are in Newville, AL

I understand that too ... For what it's worth, I have shipped a truckload of guns, and never had them lost or damaged. I'd use UPS though if you decided to go that route. I shipped a rifle to a place in MI via USPS. The shop received the rifle, completed the work and shipped it back to me. The owner picked up and has since passed away 2 years ago. To this date, if I enter the tracking number, the USPS system still shows it as "in transit" to the place I shipped it to.

If you want a Browning auto 5 refinished there is not but one place to send it. Art's Gun Shop

I just had one refinished for my Dad and it looks like it did in 64 when he brought it home. Art worked for Browning for over 30 years and know all of the right ways to do it. His bluing process is even the same as the original Browning bluing. I would not send one anywhere else.

Yes you will have to ship it to Missouri.

How much does something like that cost? I have never had one "restored" just made to look as good as possible by own hands. I've made some raggedy old guns look pretty darn good. However there is always that one.... My Grandfather's last Shotgun he bought was a Sportsman 58 20ga. Probably worth $300. Restored to like new probably worth $325... grin right - but it ain't about the money.

My Dad's Auto 5 cost me $985 to have it restored. They went through the entire gun, buffed it, touched uo the engraving, re-blued everything back to factory specs and refinished the wood in the factory gloss. It was made in 1964 and looks like it was just taken out of the box new.

I doubt I would have spent that much on a gun that did not have the sentimental value but this one will be a family heirloom.
